🔒 Did you know that German-born Walter Schlage pioneered what would become a global lock company right here in San Francisco? (Push button lock on a doorknob? He invented that.) After opening the first Schlage lock shop in the early 1920s, the company scaled-up to meet demand and moved to Visitacion Valley in 1926 and influenced life in that neighborhood for the rest of the century.
🗓 And THIS Saturday, June 20, 2026, there will be a free party to celebrate 100 years of Schlage in the Valley, with cake! The event will take place in the restored Schlage administration building on Bayshore Boulevard, the only physical remnant of Schlage's long history in the neighborhood.

“Here was a person from the city who recognized their importance, shepherded them through this process, celebrated with them, supported them, marketed them,” he said. “And I think it’s a rare thing where you have somebody at City Hall who you feel like really cares.” SF Heritage's Woody LaBounty to SF Gate
Thank you to the The Ingleside Light and SFGATE for covering the recent cuts to SF's Legacy Business Program Manager position and the program's Business Stabilization Fund. The city has affirmed its commitment to continuing the Legacy Business Program despite these cuts, and we look forward to working with the Office of Small Business to ensure that this program does not become de-prioritized and continues to serve as a crucial city benefit.
