🌳 Community Spotlight: Trash for Trees
We’re proud to highlight former GSA teacher Aaron Dohogne and the work he is doing through Trash for Trees, a St. Louis City environmental and neighborhood beautification project.

The idea is simple and powerful: volunteers pick up litter, and each piece collected helps generate funding to purchase and plant native trees in city neighborhoods..

Trash for Trees has already collected tens of thousands of pieces of litter and helped plant dozens of trees across St. Louis, with support from local sponsors and community partners.

We love seeing former members of the GSA family continuing to serve and make a positive impact in our city.

Follow the Trash for Trees community and learn how you can get involved:

Do you live in the 5th ward in one of these neighborhoods below? Join the 5th ward town hall meeting to hear from the experts. Mark your calendars October 14 at St. Louis activity center at Southwest Garden Neighborhood Association Southampton Neighborhood Association North Hampton Neighbors Association NHNA Hill Neighborhood Association

SAVE THE DATE: Your next 5th Ward town hall is next Wednesday, October 14 in Southwest Garden. The meeting will be at the St. Louis Activity Center, 5602 Arsenal Street. The forum will start at 630 pm and end no later than 8 pm. We'll be joined by Amy Bickford and Aaron Dohogne.

Amy is the program manager of the City’s Homeless Services Division. She will discuss last Winter’s Code Blue project, the City’s plan for serving the unhoused this Winter, and how the Division is working year-round with the homeless in our neighborhoods.

My office fields many inquiries every month about homeless issues. This year we struggled with encampments ranging from Manchester Avenue to beneath the Columbia-Southwest Avenue bridges, along Kingshighway, and in Tilles Park. The town hall is your opportunity to speak directly with Amy and the Homeless Services Division about your observations and concerns.

We’ll also hear from Aaron Dohogne of Trash for Trees, a grassroots volunteer organization working to make St. Louis cleaner and greener. The organization brings neighbors together for litter cleanups and partners with local businesses and sponsors to plant native Missouri trees in residents’ yards.

Trash for Trees is a great example of what residents, volunteers, and local businesses can achieve when they work together to care for the community. In 2024 alone, 228 volunteers contributed more than 360 hours of service, collected over 166,000 pieces of trash, and helped plant 110 trees throughout St. Louis.

I will also provide updates about pending legislation, a November ballot initiative concerning the City Charter, community and City events, and respond to your questions.

Please direct any questions about the meeting to Vivian Walter at [email protected].

Greetings, Gator Parents!

We are requesting your cooperation regarding student early dismissals between 2:00–2:40 PM.

The high volume of early dismissals during this time is contributing to increased traffic congestion, frequent dismissal announcements, and disruptions to classroom instruction and our regular dismissal procedures.

To help maintain a safe, orderly, and uninterrupted school environment, we ask that parents refrain from scheduling routine early pickups between 2:00–2:40 PM, effective immediately.

We understand that emergencies and unforeseen circumstances may arise and will continue to address those situations on an individual basis.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued partnership in helping us provide a safe and efficient dismissal experience for all of our Gators. 🐊💚

Best,
GSA Administration
