ALDOT plans to resurface a portion of SR-61 in Hale County from County Road 48 to the SR-14 intersection southeast of Greensboro.

The 6.3-mile project is expected to begin Tuesday, Nov. 3, and will continue until early 2027, weather permitting.

A pilot car will guide traffic through the work zone.

With Halloween on Saturday and daylight saving time ending Sunday, ALDOT reminds drivers to slow down and watch for pedestrians, especially in neighborhoods and near crosswalks.

As it gets darker earlier, pedestrians should wear bright or reflective clothing and use designated crosswalks. A little extra caution can help everyone get home safely!

ALDOT plans to resurface a portion of SR-14 in Hale County from near Holbrook Place to the SR-61 intersection in Greensboro.

The 4.7-mile project is expected to begin Tuesday, Oct. 13, and will continue until the end of the year, weather permitting.

The project also includes a road diet on SR-14 from Main Street to Tuscaloosa Street. The roadway will be reconfigured from four travel lanes to two travel lanes with a two-way center left turn lane. Road diets are a cost-effective safety strategy for traditional four-lane undivided highways and can reduce crashes by up to 47%, according to the Federal Highway Administration.

Lane closures will not be allowed between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on weekdays when school is in session to reduce the impact on traffic.

Over the last few days, ALDOT crews have worked around the clock preparing for Hurricane Isaias before it made landfall, then jumping into action to clear roadways impacted by storm debris and downed power lines.

While significant progress has been made restoring transportation routes, debris remains along some highways, particularly in the hardest-hit areas of South Alabama.

As night falls and the storm moves out of Alabama, our crews are going to take some much-deserved rest and attend to any impacts the storm had on their own families.

Personnel will remain available overnight to respond to emergencies before resuming the recovery mission in the morning.

Motorists are urged to remain alert for roadside debris and use caution around cleanup and emergency crews.

Fans traveling west on US-82 to Starkville for the Alabama-Mississippi State game should be prepared for work zones along the route.

Motorists will encounter work zones on US-82 in Coker, Gordo and near the Mississippi state line, where the outside westbound lane will be closed for approximately two miles.
