🍬 HALLOWEEN SAFETY REMINDERS:

● Cross Safely: Use crosswalks, obey signals, and look both ways before crossing.
● Be Seen: Wear bright or reflective clothing and carry a flashlight or glow stick.
● Stay Alert: Keep children close, use sidewalks, and watch for traffic.
● Drive Sober: Slow down, watch for trick-or-treaters, and never drive impaired. Plan for a sober ride.

🚨FELONY FRIDAY🚨

Today CHP Ventura Officers located a reported stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a retail hardware store near East Main Avenue and Mills Road. Officers coordinated their response and positioned patrol units behind the vehicle, preventing the driver from fleeing. The driver was safely apprehended and taken into custody for felony grand theft auto - 10851(a)CVC.

Service Beyond the Stop

While patrolling SR-150 near Happy Valley School Road, our Officer conducted a welfare check on a motorist parked on the shoulder. Fortunately, no engine trouble—just a driver enjoying a Sunday cruise in his classic Ford Model A.

Welfare checks are a simple but important way we look out for our community. Safety Service, Security, and being there when it matters—that’s what we do.

SLOW DOWN. ARRIVE SAFELY.

Recently, a CHP Ventura Area officer stopped a driver traveling 103 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.

At 103 mph, a vehicle travels more than 150 feet every second. At that speed, there is little room for error. A sudden stop, an unexpected hazard, or a moment of distraction can have devastating consequences

No destination is worth a life.

CHP OFFICER ROBERT E. REED

End of Watch October 8, 1957

Officer Robert E. Reed, 36, had stopped and arrested a motorist for a traffic violation after a high-speed pursuit along U.S. Highway 101 near Ventura. The suspect, who had become combative during his arrest, complained of an injured ankle, so Officer Reed transported him to the hospital instead of jail. As the suspect was being transferred from a gurney in the psychiatric ward, he je**ed Officer Reed’s gun out of the holster and opened fire, killing the patrol officer. Officer Reed was a six-year member of the CHP.

On October 3, 2026, at approximately 0959 hours, Ventura Communications Center (VCC) received a call of a traffic crash involving a white van which went down the cliff into the ocean on SR-1 northbound, south of Deer Creek Road. At approximately 1015 hours, Ventura Area CHP personnel arrived on scene and located the white van down the cliff, upright on all four wheels, partially in the ocean.

The driver of the white van was traveling northbound on SR-1, south of Deer Creek Road. For reasons still under investigation, the driver traveled onto the right dirt shoulder of the highway. The van lost control and entered the southbound lane of SR-1, went onto the dirt shoulder, and traveled down the cliff, overturned, and landed upright. The driver sustained minor injuries from the crash.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The crash and recovery of the van forced CHP and State Parks to provide traffic control for approximately three hours while the was van recovered from the ocean by a rotator tow truck.

This crash is being investigated by the CHP Ventura Area office. Any potential witnesses that have not already given their statements to an investigating officer or have potential dash camera footage are encouraged to contact the CHP Ventura.
