Prescribed Burn Scheduled for Tomorrow (June 3)
OVLC, in partnership with local and regional agencies, is moving forward with a prescribed burn tomorrow, June 3, at the Ventura River Steelhead Preserve west of Casitas Springs, weather and conditions permitting.
This burn is part of an ongoing ecological restoration research project examining how prescribed fire and broadcast seeding can help restore native plant communities, reduce invasive species such as yellow star-thistle, and improve long-term ecosystem health.
The operation will be overseen by the Ventura County Fire Department, with trained personnel and equipment on-site to ensure public safety and burn control. Smoke may be visible near Casitas Springs during the burn.
The prescribed burn is not open to the public. We appreciate the community's cooperation and support as we continue this important restoration work.
