As a Senior Research Scientist within the global Research and Development team of Cargill Animal Nutrition and Health, Dr. van Eck is a leading expert in poultry nutrition, with extensive experience in laying hen performance, egg quality, and nutritional innovation.

🎙️ Her presentation at the AFMA Forum 2026 will focus on: The Impact of Dietary Energy on Early Egg Production and Body Composition in Laying Hens, Using a Novel NIR Technology

Dr. van Eck obtained her PhD from Wageningen University, where her research focused on the effects of dietary interventions on body composition and laying persistency in hens.

With over a decade of research experience, she has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. Together with her colleagues, she also received an Edison Innovation Award for the development of REVEAL Layers, a handheld near-infrared (NIR) device used to assess body composition in laying hens.

Her work continues to drive innovation in poultry nutrition, helping advance sustainable and efficient egg production systems.

Dr. Bafundo is a globally respected expert in poultry nutrition and avian intestinal health, with a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years in research and innovation.

His work has contributed to the development and approval of several anticoccidials currently used in global poultry production, helping improve animal health, productivity, and feed efficiency worldwide.

Dr. Bafundo holds a Ph.D. in Poultry Nutrition from the University of Illinois and has published more than 60 scientific articles on coccidiosis, anticoccidials, antimicrobials, feed additives, and avian nutrition.

As an industry consultant and Adjunct Professor at the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Centre at the University of Georgia, he continues to advance science-based solutions that support sustainable and profitable poultry production.
