Algeria Hosts the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Steering Committee for the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline Project between Algeria, Nigeria, and Niger

Algeria will host, on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026, the proceedings of the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Steering Committee for the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project. This meeting will bring together the ministers responsible for the hydrocarbons sector from Algeria, Nigeria, and Niger, as part of the continued coordination and consultation regarding this strategic continental project.
The meeting will be attended by the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mr. Mohamed ARKAB; the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Ekperikpe EKPO; and the Minister of Petroleum of the Republic of Niger, Mr. Hamadou TINI.
This meeting will also be attended by the Chairman and CEO of the "Sonatrach" Group, Mr. Nour Eddine DAOUDI, alongside with officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company "NNPC" and the Nigerien company "SONIDEP", in addition to technical task forces and experts from the three countries.
This meeting will provide an opportunity to review the progress of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project, particularly through presenting the results of the project’s feasibility study, which was conducted by joint decision of the three countries by the consultancy firm "PENSPEN". It will also assess the implementation level of the roadmap adopted during the previous meetings held in Niamey, Abuja, and Algiers.
Furthermore, the outcomes of the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Steering Committee for the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project, held in Algiers on February 11th, 2025, will be addressed. That meeting culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the three countries, committing to continued coordination and joint action to realize this significant project.
The Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project is considered as one of the most important strategic energy projects at the African continental level. It aims to establish a pipeline to transport natural gas from Nigeria, passing through Niger, and reaching Algeria, thereby allowing the export of gas to European and other international markets.
This project also falls within the framework of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) and is expected to contribute significantly to reinforcing the African continent's position as a major global energy supplier, while supporting economic development and regional integration among African nations.
