An alleged driver and passenger have been charged after a stolen vehicle was driven through St Albans, Cairnlea and Deer Park late last night.

Police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on the van in the vicinity of Kardinia Drive, Albanvale, and the van eventually stopped in a shopping centre carpark on Station Road in Deer Park.

The driver, a 50-year-old Albanvale man, and passenger, a 40-year-old St Albans woman, have since been charged.

While on patrol in the St Albans railway station car park, Protective Services Officers had the pleasure of meeting Tomo - a long time local and proud member of the community.

Originally from Croatia, Tomo arrived in Australia at just 21 years of age and has called St Albans home for 68 years. Travelling through the station precinct, Tomo was all smiles - and even happier to stop and have a chat with PSO members.

He shared stories about his life and family, including his children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. Tomo describes himself as a very lucky man, and it’s easy to see why.

Before heading off, they snapped a few photos together to remember the moment.

It’s interactions like these that highlight what community engagement is all about - taking the time to connect, listen and build genuine relationships with the people in our local community.
