QLD DAY☀️🌴🦞

What do you get when you hand a microphone to a bunch of North Queensland school students on Queensland Day?

A heartwarming, hilarious and unsurprisingly wise celebration of everything that makes Queensland great. 🎙️☀️

The senior students at Belgian Gardens State School caught up with Saturday Brekky host Jess Naunton to reveal their favourite Queenslanders and why they reckon there's no better place to live than the Sunshine State.

Their answers will make you proud to be a Queenslander. ❤️❤️

Today Mrs Pilcher took 2 teams to the NQ Netball Cup Gala Day, a mixed and a girls team. Both teams fought incredibly hard all day. They certainly showed BG spirit and cheer.

A massive thank you to Coach Kerin, Leah’s mum for coaching the mixed team. They were top of their pool and got knocked out in the semi-finals. They finished off in the top 4 out of 20 competitive mixed teams. This team were fierce and continued to chase being the best they could be out there today. Only 3 out of the 10 students play club netball, so fantastic results for them.

Our girls were remarkable winning 3 out of 5 games. They improved immensely every single game. They worked hard in attack and defence and never gave up.

All teams chose to chase excellence, not settling for anything but there best and always looking to improve.

Great team work today BG, GO BARRAS!!!

BGSS at the U12 Bill Nettle Carnival
What a fantastic day of rugby league for our BGSS U12 team!
With several key players unavailable due to injury, illness and representative commitments, the team embraced the challenge and stepped up when it mattered most. Throughout the day, students demonstrated resilience, teamwork and determination while competing in four tough matches.
Some highlights included:
Tries to Sebastian, Parker, Daniel, Claire, Huxley and Cooper
Powerful runs from Josh, Huxley, Claire, Jesiah, Jack and Hunter
Strong defensive efforts from Evie, Max and Huxley
Most importantly, our players showed great sportsmanship, tried new positions, supported their teammates and continued to battle through adversity across the day.
A big congratulations to all players for representing BGSS with pride. We now look forward to developing the U12s Les Stagg Knockout Competition team and building the U10s with the Blackhawks Carnival in Term 3!

Representative Swimming
BG’s own superfish, Kensi, has been making waves in the pool, recently representing Northern at the State Swimming Championships in Brisbane.
Competing against some of Queensland’s best young swimmers, Kensi produced an outstanding performance, qualifying for five finals, achieving three top-five finishes, and claiming a silver medal in the 100m Backstroke and a bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly.
These fantastic results have earned Kensi selection in the Queensland team to compete at the National Championships in Melbourne this November, where she will race against the best swimmers in Australia born in 2016.
An amazing achievement, Kensi! We are incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see how you go at Nationals!
Kensi’s talents are not just limited to the pool, however. Last week she also qualified for the Northern Cross Country team to compete against the best long distance runners in the state later this year, in Toowoomba. Way to go Kensi!

Representative Tennis
Congratulations to Ike and Billy who competed at the Northern Trials for tennis recently and earned selection in the northern team. Ike and Billy will travel to Brisbane in July to compete in the state tennis championships. Super effort boys!

School Futsal Titles
On Monday 18 May and Tuesday 19 May, Belgian Gardens State School sent four teams to compete in the AFA School Futsal Titles.
While our U12 Boys and Girls, along with our U10 Boys bowed out in close semi-finals, it was our U10 Girls who defended their title beating St Benedict’s in the final!
Congratulations girls!
