Easter is an important holiday in Denmark, often spent with family and friends. Many Danes gather for traditional Easter lunches featuring seasonal dishes and spend the holiday enjoying the arrival of spring.🌸

A unique Danish Easter tradition is gækkebreve ✉️, which are playful, anonymous letters written in rhyme and sent to friends or family in early spring. The sender signs the letter with dots instead of their name, and if the recipient cannot guess who sent it, they must give the sender a chocolate Easter egg. 🍫🥚

From the Danish Embassy in Athens, we wish all Danes in Greece and Cyprus a happy Easter. 🇬🇷 🇨🇾

On Sunday, 5 April at 20:00, Danish pianist Elisabeth Holmegaard Nielsen and Ukrainian baritone Andriy Koshman will perform at the Megaron Music Library of Greece.

This compelling contemporary classical concert unites Ukrainian and Danish music in an expressive programme of modern works, including world premieres written especially for the duo. The programme also features music by leading contemporary composers from both countries, including Per Nørgård, Niels Rosing-Schow and Valentyn Sylvestrov.

We are looking forward to a deeply moving musical experience.

Χρόνια πολλά Ελλάδα! 🇬🇷

Today Greece celebrates its National Day, commemorating the start of the Greek War of Independence in 1821. The day marks the uprising against Ottoman rule and the beginning of Greece’s path to independence.

The celebration also coincides with the Feast of the Annunciation, giving the day both national and religious significance. Across Greece and among Greek communities worldwide, the occasion is marked with parades, ceremonies and commemorations honouring those who fought for the country’s freedom.

Denmark warmly congratulates Greece and the Greek people on this important day.
