π₯Heatwave reminder: Please put out a shallow dish of fresh water for hedgehogs and other wildlife. During hot weather, finding water can be difficult, and this simple act can make a real difference π
Place it in a shady spot and, if possible, add a few small stones or pebbles so insects and other small creatures can climb out safely. Refill with fresh water each day π¦π¦ππ§
Thank you to everyone helping local wildlife through the hot weather π«Ά

Just picked up these 2 boys from Hospice car park in Mont Cochon. They are tiny 71g and 76g they have most of their teeth so are about 4 weeks old. It is very dry up there, so if anyone is visiting hospice in the next couple of days please keep your eyes open for any other siblings. Thanks
Thank you to the very kind lady who phoned me and helped me look for the second one!

Thanks to Gill Morgan for her press release, which was picked up by the BBC. She is doing an interview tomorrow. Please remember to top up those water bowls while it is so hot and dry, thanks.
π¦ Islanders are being urged to take care when cutting back hedgerows, as wildlife like hedgehogs may be nesting inside πΏ
Campaigners say disturbing nests during the breeding season can put animals and their young at risk, as branchage gets under way.

Here are the 4 babes found in a garden at the top of the German Road in St Peter and the adult is a female found at the same time in the road a little way away so I put them together and there has been no arguing so am assuming she is mum. She has weaned them, they have all their teeth, but were found wandering around in the daytime, not being able to find enough food in this hot weather. Mum is also very thin and exhausted from rearing the family for a month. After a few shaky days we all seem to be on track again now, and are all feeding ourselves.

Another adult hedgehog found in a desperate state yesterday and taken to the vets where we assume it was put to sleep. There was a gash on its bottom a whole area of shaved spines on its back with hardly any abrasion and a nasty hole in the middle of its nose. There were little maggots coming out of the wound on the bottom from deep inside the hedgehog. The finders had heard strimming on Wednesday but not seen the hedgehog till yesterday (Friday).
We can't repeat this often enough PLEASE CHECK THE AREA YOU ARE GOING TO CUT BEFORE YOU START WORK!
PLEASE SHARE THIS POST SO THE WORD GETS OUT THERE TO THE PEOPLE DOING BRANCHAGE

Here is an update on the family we posted about early who were found when a hedge was being cut down. They are now 3 weeks old. Mum has been a very good mother, the babes will have their back teeth coming through now and will be starting on solid foods. They have been given a selection to see what they like!
