Cybersecurity in Aviation: Protecting the Systems That Keep Us Flying

The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is currently participating in a cybersecurity training course taking place from 19–23 October 2026. The training is led by Mr. Vidas Kaupelis from Aeroclass.

As aviation becomes increasingly dependent on interconnected digital systems, protecting these systems from cyber threats is essential to maintaining safe and reliable operations. The training explores the potential impact of cyber incidents on aviation safety, ransomware attacks, and the critical operational systems, information infrastructure, interfaces and data flows that support air navigation service providers.

Through practical case studies and the concept of “Cyber in My Working Day,” participants are examining how cybersecurity risks can emerge in everyday work, who is responsible for managing different systems, and how weaknesses in one area can affect wider aviation operations.

The training reinforces an important message: cybersecurity is not only an IT responsibility; it is part of everyone's responsibility to aviation safety.

The engagement celebrated the impact of investing in young people and empowering future professionals to contribute to Namibia’s development.
