NYS HANDS OVER TALISMANUS COMMUNITY GARDEN PROJECT TO OPM
Today, 24 October 2026, the National Youth Service (NYS) officially handed over the Talismanus Community Garden Project to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), marking the occasion with a celebration of the project’s second harvest.
Through its Voluntary Service and Production Unit, NYS provided technical and operational support, including the installation of shade-net structures, a solar-powered water pumping system and drip irrigation to support sustainable agricultural production.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by the Executive for Skills Training and Production, Ms Joy Mamili, NYS Commissioner Dr Felix Musukubili said the project’s achievements demonstrate the agricultural potential of the area and the positive results that can be realised through strategic investment, partnerships and community collaboration.
The project has yielded cabbages, carrots and beetroot, while empowering the community through skills transfer and participation, with approximately 20 community members involved in its implementation.
Speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, OPM Executive Director Mr Petrus Sindimba highlighted the vision of establishing productive and sustainable community gardens across Namibia’s 121 constituencies to strengthen food and nutrition security.
The initiative contributes to the objectives of NDP6, promoting agricultural production, employment creation and community development.
