After the first layer of asphalt is put down, the valve box gets raised for the second layer to be applied just slightly higher than the road.

Each layer gets rolled over, compressed, and then let to cure. Later in the evening, WU's night crew will come by and pick up the cones and flashers so the area is ready to drive on the next day!

While I was asking fun questions about Halloween a lot of important work was being done. Dave was sending hand signals to Cam, who was operating the dump truck. Jim, Aaron, and Kyle were using asphalt rakes to spread out and level the first steamy layer, which comes from the pick up site at a temp of around 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

💧 Can you imagine a day without water?

Water supports learning by keeping our bodies and brains healthy. Providing safe, high-quality drinking water is at the heart of what we do!

Today, Madison Water Utility teamed up with Madison Credit Union to answer a call from Toki Middle School staff to get reusable water bottles into students’ hands. 💙

Access to water is essential to a healthy community, and we’re proud to work together to help Madison’s students thrive!
