Please read and remember:

Memorial Day is a federal holiday dedicated to mourning and honoring U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the Armed Forces. It is a solemn day of remembrance rather than a celebration of all veterans (which is recognized on Veterans Day).

Our prayers go out to all who lost a loved one who was serving our country.

S.W.A.T.
Please help us congratulate Officer Mayes for earning a spot on the MPD Special Weapons and Tactics unit!

Multiple officers participated in the rigorous tryout. Mayes successfully completed all the required challenges and will now begin the official training process.

Earning a spot on the team is a significant achievement that requires dedication, discipline, physical readiness, sound judgment, and a commitment to serving the community at the highest level. The men and women in the photo represent the highest level of training within our agency. They train regularly, to be ready when needed.

Congratulations Officer Mayes and thank you for your service to our community!

Who creates posts & shares info with you?

This week MPD hosted a PIO FUNDAMENTALS class at our headquarters. Over (30) PIOโ€™s gathered to learn and practice on-camera interviews. They spent (3) days together learning best practices, working through scenarios, and rehearsing how they will respond when their community needs them.

After all, they will likely be the ones creating posts just like this oneโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Special thanks to WSB-TV & WSB Radio for stopping by to assist!

Interstate Crash Investigation

The Marietta Police Departments Selective Traffic Enforcement Program is investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred just before 1:00 AM Friday morning, in the middle lanes of I-75 Southbound on the bridge over North Marietta Parkway.

The initial on scene investigation revealed that an unrelated accident had occurred a few hours prior that had all Southbound lanes shut down. While Southbound traffic was stopped, a tractor trailer being operated by 29-year-old Mayki Marcelin, of Davenport FL was stopped with surrounding traffic, on the bridge over North Marietta Parkway. When the roadway was reopened, Marcelin remained stationary as other traffic began to flow. A tractor trailer being operated by 35-year-old Daniel Granados, of Ft Lauderdale was Southbound in the same lane as the stopped tractor trailer and swerved to miss it, grazing the side of it while passing it on the left side. A white Volkswagen was also Southbound approaching the bridge being operated by 47-year-old Gordon Fields of Marietta. Fields drove into the back of the stopped tractor trailer. Fields did not survive the crash and was pronounced at the scene. The drivers of both tractor trailers stayed on scene and are cooperating with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been taken at this time. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Traffic Investigator Henry at (770) 794-5266.

Please join us in praying for the family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss of life.
