We’re honored to share that the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary has been named a finalist in D CEO Magazine’s 2026 Nonprofit & Corporate Citizenship Awards for Volunteer of the Year in recognition of Mrs. Sally Evans. 🌿

For more than five decades, Mrs. Sally has dedicated her time, heart, and passion to environmental education at the Heard, inspiring generations of children and families through nature storytimes, trail guiding, and her unwavering commitment to connecting people with the natural world.

At 90 years old, her impact continues to reach far beyond our trails. Mrs. Sally embodies the spirit of stewardship, curiosity, and care that defines the Heard community, and we are deeply grateful for all she has given over the years.

Please join us in celebrating this incredible honor and an extraordinary volunteer whose legacy continues to inspire. 💚

What is Kimmy training for? 🏃‍♀️

In the wild, Virginia opossums spend their nights wandering and foraging for food, so exercise wheels help provide the movement and exploration they naturally crave.

For Kimmy, wheel time is a fun form of enrichment that helps keep her active, healthy, and mentally stimulated… even if she does pause occasionally for a dramatic paw-licking intermission. 😄🐾

Today’s trail tip from Mr. Dave: Don't rush the trail. Take a breath, look around, and pay attention to what you’re seeing. Being present in nature can do wonders for your mind. 🌿

Looking to learn more about plants, animals, and Heard's history while on the trail? Join us for Guided Trails on June 6 at 9:30 am: https://bit.ly/4nYx9Mg

Did you know that simply spending time in nature can help reduce stress and improve your mood? 🌿✨

Sometimes, supporting your mental well-being can be as simple as a color walk—slowing down and intentionally noticing the colors, textures, and details around you in nature. 💚

This Mental Health Awareness Month, take a moment to pause, step outside, and Squeeze the Day. 🍋
