Boston Day and Evening Academy is a Horace Mann Charter School in the Boston Public School District. While operating within the district, BDEA's charter entitles it to autonomy in five areas: Curriculum, Scheduling, Hiring, Budget, and Governance. BDEA uses these autonomies to operate as a non-traditional, experiential school that serves non-traditional students.

Sometimes you just have to add celebration, an advisory pumpkin competition, and costumes to outstanding competency-based academics, phenomenal student support services, and a steadfast postgraduate planning department. Welcome to BDEA on October 30, 2026!

💜 Today, BDEA students and staff wore purple in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. At BDEA, we work every day to create a community where people feel safe, seen, and supported. Today was a moment to stand together, raise awareness, and remind one another that no one should have to face it alone.

BDEA students went to the theater last week to see Actors' Shakespeare Project's (ASP's) production of Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors — and they LOVED it! Our students also got a special shout-out from Actors' Shakespeare Project as the first audience members to review the incredible performance.

We love seeing our students experience live theater, share their reactions, and have their voices celebrated. ASP is a longstanding partner for BDEA - helping bring the arts to our special community.

Enjoy the reactions below! 🎭

Just a reminder that our BDEA Alumni Homecoming is coming up on Saturday, September 19 from 1:00–3:00 PM! We hope you’ll come back to BDEA to reconnect with old friends and teachers, bring your family, and celebrate the BDEA community.

We’ll have light food and activities, a garden tour with former Head of School Meg Maccini, Gardener Carlos Rosales, and the artists behind BDEA’s garden art, plus plenty of time to catch up and reconnect.

The event is FREE and families are welcome. Please register using the QR code or at https://bdea.org/alumni-event-registration/so we know you’re coming! Questions? Reach Jill at [email protected]
