Ahead of the 128th anniversary of Philippine independence, I spent time with the City of San Diego's Filipino American Employees Association to celebrate the Filipino-American public servants who keep San Diego running with professionalism and pride.

Filipino Americans have long strengthened San Diego through public service, military service, community leadership and a deep commitment to family and belonging. That legacy is alive in City Hall and across our workforce.

The May Revise is focused on the fundamentals and a responsible path forward for San Diego. Even in a tight budget year, we are making disciplined, targeted investments that keep neighborhoods safer and help people get the care they need.

Community leaders said it best:

Ten years and 3.5 million reports later!📱🛠️👏

What started as a simple idea for a “pothole app” has evolved into a sophisticated platform handling more than 1,000 resident requests every single day across 65 different services.

A huge thank you to our Performance and Analytics Department for creating and running this program, our hard-working city crews for addressing repairs, and all San Diegans for being our eyes and ears on the ground.

By using data to streamline processes and track neighborhood needs, we're building a more efficient city for everyone.

I’m listening, and I hear you. Closing a $118 million deficit requires difficult reductions. The May revision of the City budget reflects what we heard from San Diegans: make strategic restorations to library and recreation center hours, protect core services, and stay focused on fixing roads, keeping communities safe, addressing homelessness and building more homes.

San Diego is no longer a top 10 most expensive rental market.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports San Diego is now No. 12, with rents dropping as more homes come online.

This is why we keep pushing to .

More housing means more choices for renters, more competition in the market, and more affordability for San Diegans.

We still have more work to do, but this shows that building more homes to bring down housing costs is the right path forward.

While closing a $118 million deficit required difficult reductions, we’re still investing in programs and services that support San Diego’s children, families and neighborhoods.

Parking Funds Fuel Thousands of Neighborhood Repairs 05/07/2026

Parking meter revenue is delivering real results in , , and .

In just six months, we’ve completed more than 5,000 neighborhood repairs using funds generated in these community parking districts.

▪️3,000+ potholes fixed
▪️Nearly 2,000 streetlights restored
▪️Traffic safety upgrades at 80+ locations ▪️Sidewalk repairs and corridor paving improvements

By law, this funding stays in the neighborhoods where it’s collected, and now it’s being put to work fixing the streets, sidewalks, and lighting people rely on every day.
