In FY2026, the RMI Outreach Program continued its mission of reaching Marshallese citizens across the United States, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.

Our North Carolina outreach mission provided direct consular assistance, COFA education, support with documentation and public benefit inquiries, and opportunities to strengthen partnerships with local agencies and community leaders.

As we look ahead to FY2027, we remain committed to expanding our reach, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that no Marshallese citizen is left behind, regardless of where they reside in the United States.

The Ambassador and team extend naan in Kamolol to the North Carolina Marshallese community for their partnership and collaboration. We also express our heartfelt appreciation to Anjanette Davis-Anjel and Hilma Lemari for their dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to our people.

Marshall Islands Calls for Global Action on Sea-Level Rise

New York, 24 September 2026 — Minister Kalani R. Kaneko represented the Republic of the Marshall Islands at the UN High-level Plenary Meeting on Sea-Level Rise, joining world leaders to address the escalating threats facing Small Island Developing States and low-lying nations.

Speaking on behalf of the Pacific Islands Forum, Minister Kaneko reaffirmed that sea-level rise is a direct threat to Pacific peoples, economies, and sovereignty. He highlighted the Pacific’s leadership through the 2021 Declaration on Preserving Maritime Zones and the 2023 Declaration on the Continuity of Statehood, which have shaped global understanding of sea-level rise and international law.

The meeting marked a pivotal moment in advancing the UN General Assembly’s resolution on sea-level rise, aimed at mobilizing international cooperation and securing legal and financial protection for vulnerable nations.

“Recognition must now become action,” Minister Kaneko said. “The world must stand with the Pacific to protect our peoples, our rights, and our future.”

Marshall Islands Delegation Joins Opening of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly

New York, 22 September 2026 — The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hon. Kalani R. Kaneko, the Minister in Assistance to the President and Environment, Hon. Jess Gasper Jr., RMI Ambassador and Permanent Representative, H.E. John Silk, and senior officials, joined world leaders today for the opening of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) at UN Headquarters in New York.

The RMI delegation is led by Her Excellency Dr. Hilda C. Heine, President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The RMI delegation will participate in high‑level meetings throughout UNGA81 week, advancing the country’s advocacy on climate financing, ocean protection, and inclusive development.

🇲🇭🇨🇦Strengthening Marshall Islands-Canada Relations

September 15, 2026| H.E. Ambassador Charles Paul presented his letters of Credence to Her Excellency Louise Arbour, Governor General of Canada, at Rideau Hall, officially assuming his role as non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to Canada.

During his visit, Ambassador Paul reaffirmed the Marshall Islands’ commitment to deepening cooperation with Canada on shared priorities, including climate actions, sustainable development, education and training, capacity building, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands values its longstanding friendship with Canada and looks forward to further strengthening this important partnership for the benefits of both nations. 🇲🇭🤝🇨🇦

September 2-7, 2026 | The Republic of the Marshall Islands Outreach Team was honored to participate in the Jaluit Joor Day 2026 celebrations in Spokane, Washington, and Ottumwa, Iowa, while providing outreach and consular services to Marshallese families. Through community engagement and focus group sessions, 152 community surveys were completed to help strengthen future programs and services.

During the opening ceremonies, Consul General Anjanette Davis-Anjel conveyed appreciation and best wishes on behalf of President Hilda C. Heine, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kalani R. Kaneko, and Ambassador Charles R. Paul, thanking the Jaluit Joor Day officers, organizers, volunteers, athletes, and community members for their commitment to preserving Marshallese culture, strengthening community ties, and supporting Marshallese youth.
