Glen Ewin Estate A South Australian icon with 180 years of heritage
Weddings | Events | Catering A South Australian icon. But what happened to Glen Ewin?
(563)

Glen Ewin Estate has been around almost 150 years and is still going strong! It all began with horticulturist George McEwin, creator of the famous Glen Ewin Jam label. Production continued on the Estate for many years until the brand was bought by IXL back in the 80s. Sadly, it was soon in disrepair. When the Wauchope's purchased the property in the 90s, it was practically derelict. Little by little, the Glen Ewin Estate we know today emerged. People loved the beautiful gardens with their sweeping lawns and expansive lakes and soon couples were asking if they could get married here. And we haven't looked back since! We're now Adelaide's premier wedding venue and from Thursday to Sunday we open our Bistro Cellar Door for a feeding of local produce and tasting of local wines.

5 things you didn't know about Glen Ewin. Number 4 surprises everyone.

1. In 1843, George McEwin, a Scottish horticulturist, planted the gardens first.
2. By 1845, some of South Australia's earliest vines were in the ground here.
3. Sandstone from the estate's own quarry built the homestead, and the same stone is in Adelaide Town Hall, the GPO and St Peter's Cathedral.
4. For more than 100 years, this estate made jam.
5. The Pulpshed was built to store fruit pulp for the jam factory.

The first wedding here arrived on a Vespa. How are you arriving at yours?

In 1993, the first couple married at Glen Ewin rode up the grass aisle on a classic Italian Vespa. Since then, we've seen vintage cars and convertibles, a groom arriving on horseback, and a bride rowed across the lake by boat.

A classic car, a boat or something entirely your own? Tell us below.
