You may have seen a TikTok post by a Saracen Street shop raising funds for our project.
The donations appear to have come from members of the local community who use the shop.
In September, the shop owner texted YPF to suggest a meeting to discuss the fundraising.
After careful consideration, YPF decided to decline the shop owner’s offer of support.
YPF has several reasons for not wanting to be associated with the shop, including concerns that it portrays young people and our wider community negatively.
YPF has been part of Possilpark and the wider community since 2002. We value this wonderful community and the remarkable people who live and work here.
YPF does not wish to participate in negative narratives or stereotypes about our young people or the wider community.
YPF has not contacted the shop owner because we believe much of their social media content portrays our community and its residents negatively.
We thank everyone in the local community who donated to the shop’s fundraising efforts. However, we cannot appear to support or condone the negative coverage the shop continues to share about our young people and community.
We trust you will understand our decision.
