As Invisible Disabilities Week comes to an end, there’s one message I hope people take away from this week…

Nobody should have to prove their pain, explain their limitations, or defend their disability simply because someone else can’t see it.

Living with an invisible disability is hard enough without having to deal with judgment, disbelief, and the constant feeling that you need to justify what you’re going through.

We shouldn’t have to push ourselves beyond our limits just to prove we’re struggling.

And we shouldn’t have to look sick or disabled to be treated with understanding and compassion.

As this week comes to a close, let’s remember that the struggles don’t end when awareness week does.

For millions of people, this is everyday life.

Awareness may last a week, but understanding, kindness, and compassion should last all year. đź’™

What would make voting in Jersey more accessible? 🧡

The Jersey Electoral Authority (JEA) is asking islanders to share their experiences of voting and help identify the barriers that can make it harder for people to take part in elections.

The survey is for people aged 65 and over, disabled people, people living with long-term conditions, carers, support organisations and anyone interested in promoting inclusive voting in Jersey.

Whether you voted in June or not, your experience matters. Your feedback will help inform improvements to make the 2030 elections work better for older and disabled islanders.

đź•’ The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete.
đź“… Closing date: Sunday 15 November 2026
👉 Take the survey: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/t/VoterAccess

At Enable Jersey, we believe every voice deserves to be heard. Please share this survey to help make voting more accessible and inclusive for everyone.

A family legacy. A shared purpose. 🧡

For Sally, being part of Enable Jersey means more than joining a team. It means continuing a connection to the charity that stretches back generations.

Sally joined us in September 2025 as our Operations Coordinator, helping keep our day-to-day operations running smoothly. But her family’s connection to Enable Jersey began long before that.

Her great-grandparents, Adolphus and Marcelle Maloret, were members of the charity in the 1980s. Their involvement helped inspire Sally’s grandparents, Louis and Madeleine Chalker, to volunteer for what was then known as The Jersey Society for the Disabled.

For more than 30 years, her grandparents gave their time, energy and care to the charity. From helping run members’ meetings and organising events to driving members on trips away, they played an important part in the lives of the people they supported.

Sally even has childhood memories of visiting The Limes Club during school holidays, helping serve lunch and play dominoes with members alongside her cousins.

Today, she’s proud to be part of the same charity her grandparents cared so deeply about, continuing that legacy in her own way.

As Sally puts it, knowing the difference her grandparents made has given her a deep appreciation for the charity and the impact it has on people’s lives.

We think it’s a wonderful reminder that the work of a community charity is about more than services. It’s about people, relationships and the difference that can carry on through generations. 🧡
