Wara l-komunikazzjoni tal-bieraħ dwar l-immarkar tat-traffiku fi Triq Santa Marija u t-toroq tal-madwar, il-Kunsill Lokali jixtieq jirringrazzja lill-Perit ta’ Infrastructure Malta responsabbli mill-proġett, li minnufih ikkuntattja lis-Sindku wara li tqajmu t-tħassib u l-ilmenti tar-residenti.

Dalgħodu saret laqgħa fuq il-post bejn is-Sindku, is-Segretarju Eżekuttiv u l-Periti responsabbli sabiex jiġu diskussi l-kwistjonijiet identifikati. Napprezzaw ir-rispons immedjat tal-Perit u r-rieda tiegħu li jaħdem b’mod kostruttiv sabiex jinstabu soluzzjonijiet prattiċi.

Matul il-laqgħa ġie rikonoxxut li d-disinn tat-triq jippreżenta diversi sfidi fl-implimentazzjoni tal-immarkar skont l-istandards u r-regolamenti fis-seħħ. Wara d-diskussjonijiet li saru, intlaħaq qbil dwar numru ta’ aġġustamenti raġonevoli li se jgħinu biex jiżdiedu l-ispazji għall-parkeġġ filwaqt li jiġu rispettati r-rekwiżiti ta’ sigurtà u konformità. Dawn il-modifiki ser jitwettqu fil-jiem li ġejjin.

Huwa importanti li jiġi ċċarat li l-involviment ta’ Infrastructure Malta huwa limitat għax-xogħlijiet li saru fi Triq Santa Marija. Il-kwistjonijiet relatati ma’ Triq Guże Muscat qed jiġu indirizzati separatament ma’ Enemalta, li wkoll qablet li tirrevedi t-tħassib imqajjem u tagħmel il-bidliet meħtieġa fejn ikun hemm bżonn.

Il-Kunsill Lokali jibqa’ impenjat li jaħdem mill-qrib mal-entitajiet kollha involuti sabiex it-tħassib tar-residenti jiġi indirizzat u biex ir-riżultat finali jirrifletti kemm il-pjani approvati kif ukoll il-ħtiġijiet tal-komunità.

Following yesterday’s communication regarding the traffic markings in Triq Santa Marija and the surrounding areas, the Local Council would like to thank Infrastructure Malta’s Architect responsible for the project, who immediately contacted the Mayor after our concerns were raised.

A site meeting was held this morning between the Mayor, Executive Secretary, and Architects in charge to discuss the issues identified. We appreciate the Architect’s prompt response and willingness to engage constructively in finding practical solutions.

During the meeting, it was acknowledged that the street’s design presents a number of challenges when implementing road markings in line with current standards and regulations. Following discussions, several adjustments and reasonable compromises were agreed upon, which will help maximise the number of available parking spaces while maintaining compliance and safety requirements. Modifications will be carried out in the coming days.

It is important to clarify that Infrastructure Malta’s involvement is limited to works carried out in Triq Santa Marija. Matters concerning Triq Guże Muscat are being addressed separately with Enemalta, who have also agreed to review the concerns raised and revise the markings where necessary.

The Local Council remains committed to working closely with all entities involved to ensure that residents’ concerns are addressed and that the final outcome reflects both the approved plans and the needs of the community.

🇲🇹 Wara li tlestew ix-xogħlijiet fi Triq Santa Marija u l-inħawi tagħha, kif inhi l-prassi, ġew immarkati s-sinjali tat-traffiku fiż-żona.

Wara diversi komunikazzjonijiet li waslu mingħand ir-residenti, il-Kunsill Lokali kkonferma li dawn is-sinjali ma ġewx implimentati skont il-pjanta aġġornata. Fosthom hemm l-immarkar ta’ Blue Bay, li ilha li tneħħiet għal madwar sentejn.

Il-Kunsill jixtieq jiċċara li dawn ix-xogħlijiet ma sarux mill-Kunsill Lokali, iżda twettqu minn Infrastructure Malta u Enemalta.

Is-Sindku Christopher Deguara flimkien mal-Kunsilliera qed jinsistu u jeżieġu li s-sinjali jiġu riveduti, aġġornati u rranġati sabiex jirriflettu l-pjanta approvata u jindirizzaw it-tħassib leġittimu tar-residenti.

🇬🇧 Following the completion of works in Triq Santa Marija and the surrounding areas, and as per standard procedure, traffic markings were marked in the area.

Following several communications received from residents, the Local Council confirms that these markings were not implemented in accordance with the updated plan. Among the issues identified, is the marking of a Blue Bay, which has in fact been removed for approximately two years.

The Council would like to clarify that these works were not carried out by the Local Council, but were undertaken by Infrastructure Malta and Enemalta.

The Mayor Chris Deguara together with the Councillors are insisting and requesting that the signage be reviewed, updated, and corrected to reflect the approved plan and to address the legitimate concerns of residents.

The Local Council will continue to closely follow this matter with the relevant authorities to ensure that the situation is rectified as soon as possible.

Diversion to Mosta: Route buses coming Naxxar Towards Mosta will have to divert by passing from VJAL 21 TA SETTEMBRU without serving SAGHAJTAR area.

Diversion to Naxxar: Follow the same diversion for the return journey using as starting point the roundabout of SANTA MARGERITA.

Following this morning’s explosion in the Magħtab area, and following communications with the Civil Protection Department (CPD), the Naxxar Local Council is urging the public to avoid travelling through T’Alla u Ommu, Triq is-Salina, and the surrounding areas until further notice. Members of the public are kindly requested to use alternative routes and follow the instructions of the authorities.

The Council will continue to liaise with the Civil Protection Department and provide updates as necessary.

We talk a lot about open spaces, green spaces... but is it all just talk?

This is the site as it stands today — 8,600m² of public land (that's two and a half times the size of St George's Square in Valletta). On the left, the Distribution Centre that already ate 1,900m² from this same site. This land belongs to the government — and the government has full control over it.

The government is proposing a building of up to 17.5 metres in height on this site. (The image is an AI-generated impression based on the footprint submitted in planning application PC79/25 — it is not the actual design.) Of the remaining 8,600m², only 1,200m² would be left unbuilt — and even that is not intended as public green space.

The Naxxar Local Council is proposing something very different. A design featuring genuine green space with underground parking so no surface space is lost, historical remains preserved and visible to all, trees and greenery throughout, and play areas and sports facilities — including options for those who want to practise on their own.

This land belongs to the government. Had it been privately owned, even the government would have had limited say over its future. But here, the choice is entirely theirs. We have a unique opportunity to move beyond words about open spaces and actually deliver one. Naxxar deserves nothing less.

Diversion to Valletta: Follow the same diversion. Using as starting point TECHNOPARK ROUNDABOUT.

Councillor Andrè Muscat has returned from an EU-funded training programme under ESF+03.246 Lifelong Learning, an initiative by the Government Division.

The training focused on citizen-centred service delivery, the Inclusive Service Charter, inclusion, equity and access in local governance, and KPIs to measure policy impact.

During the programme, Councillor Muscat met with Luis Nuno Ramos, Municipal Director of Education of the City of Lisbon, discussing educational services and inclusive policy approaches.

The programme was a continuation of others where Councillor Godwin Grech, the Executive Secretary, and two officials, working on practical tools for better governance.
