Today, we kicked off in Valletta with three expert-led Short Courses, offering participants the opportunity to dive deeper into key topics across statistics and data science in a practical, interactive setting.
A strong start to several days of learning, exchange and networking in Malta.
Tomorrow morning, the official opening of the 5th ISI Regional Statistics Conference 2026 will take place, starting with the Opening Ceremony at 9:00 AM, followed by the Opening Plenary Talk by Etienne Caruana, Director General of the National Statistics Office Malta.

Total inbound tourists for April 2026 were estimated at 409,403, an increase of 16.6 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2025. Total nights spent amounted to 2,130,733, and total expenditure reached €335.0 million.

Results for April 2026 show that the number of unemployed persons stood at 12,400, an increase of 1.4 per cent compared with March 2026, and an increase of 22.1 per cent when compared to April 2025.

In 2026-Q1, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose by 3.9 per cent in volume terms.
Domestic demand contributed positively to GDP growth in volume terms (3.6 percentage points).
Foreign trade also contributed positively to GDP growth in volume terms (0.3 percentage points).
The GDP deflator rose by 3.0 per cent when compared to 2025-Q1.
