📩 Need specific data? The NSO was established by virtue of the Malta Statistics Authority Act XXIV of 2000 and replaced the Central Office of Statistics as from 1 March 2001. Section 10 of the Act determines the functions and responsibilities of the Office, which include the collection, compilation, extraction and release of official statistics relating to the demographic, social, environmental, economic and general activities and conditions of Malta.

🎃 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲’𝐬 𝐆𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭: 𝟏𝟗𝟑𝟏 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Behind every old census table is a story about Malta: who lived here, how old they were, where they came from and the homes they lived in. Statistics preserve those stories, allowing us to look back decades later and understand how society has changed.

The first census in a line of decennial censuses was carried out in 𝟏𝟖𝟒𝟐, providing one of the richest records of the country and its people. 👻

Apart from Census statistical data, the Malta Blue Books date back to 𝟏𝟖𝟐𝟏 the times of the British Administration of the 19th and 20th Centuries.

Our NSO office turned a little pink as colleagues came together to mark Pink October! 💕

Organised by our Staff Social Committee, the event brought everyone together for a fun quiz, tasty snacks, and great company! 🧠🍪

🩹 First Aid Skills That Make a Difference! 🚑

Over the past three days, some of our NSO colleagues took part in a First Aid training course at the Jobsplus Training Complex in Ħal Far.

From learning essential life-saving skills to knowing how to respond in an emergency, the training was an important step towards making our workplace safer and better prepared. 💪

💡 What does the unemployment rate measure?

It represents the percentage of people in the labour force (aged 15–74) who are without a job, actively looking for work and available to start working.

The labour force includes both employed and unemployed persons, meaning the rate is not a percentage of the entire population.

👥 In September 2026, an estimated 11,860 people were unemployed in Malta.
