Malaysian Technology Development Corporation Sdn. MTDC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Berhad and has been the key player in commercialisation and management of government funding since the 7th Malaysia Plan. MTDC was established in 1992 to promote the adoption of technologies by local companies via commercialisation of local R&D or acquisition of foreign technologies. More recently, to accommodate the rapid growth and increased needs of the tech industry in Malaysia, the mandate of MTDC has been expanded to nurturing, handholding and expediting the growth of technology-based Malaysian companies through the following integrated services:

Growing Interest in MTDC SPHERE Among Entrepreneurs and Technology Companies

With more than 200 subscriptions to help businesses grow, MTDC SPHERE continues to gain attention among entrepreneurs and technology companies seeking opportunities to strengthen their businesses and explore new avenues for growth.

This interest was reflected during MTDC’s Knowledge Sharing Session held at UMEC Office, Kampung Baru, on 28 October 2026, where participants were introduced to the platform and its role in connecting businesses with MTDC’s wider support ecosystem.

Led by Mohd Izwan Yusof from MTDC’s Business Advisory Services Department, the session provided insights into how MTDC SPHERE brings together digital solutions and access to MTDC’s five Cs - Capital, Capability, Connection, Consultancy and Certification.

The engagement also provided an opportunity to raise awareness of how businesses can leverage MTDC’s ecosystem to support their development and commercialisation journey.

As awareness and interest in MTDC SPHERE continue to grow, MTDC remains focused on strengthening industry engagement and connecting businesses with opportunities that support sustainable growth.

SALAM TAKZIAH | PEMERGIAN ALLAHYARHAM DATO’ DR. MOHAMED ARIFFIN BIN HJ. ATON

Lembaga Pengarah, barisan pengurusan dan seluruh warga Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) menzahirkan rasa dukacita yang mendalam atas pemergian Allahyarham Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ariffin bin Hj. Aton, mantan Ahli Lembaga Pengarah MTDC.

Allahyarham telah menabur bakti selama lebih 22 tahun, bermula 13 Mei 1997 hingga 2019, menjadikan beliau Ahli Lembaga Pengarah paling lama berkhidmat dalam sejarah MTDC. Sepanjang tempoh tersebut, Allahyarham turut memainkan peranan penting dalam aspek tadbir urus, pencalonan, imbuhan dan pelaburan korporat.

Segala jasa, kepimpinan dan sumbangan Allahyarham kepada pembangunan MTDC akan sentiasa dikenang dan dihargai.

On 27 October 2026, MTDC in collaboration with SME Corp. Malaysia, brought together 15 women-owned companies and technology providers for the Business Matching Session under the Transforming SMEs into Exporters – Women (TSMEX-W) programme.

The B2B sessions created opportunities for participants to explore technology solutions, discuss business needs and establish connections to support their growth ambitions.

Through TSMEX-W, MTDC supports participating companies in strengthening business capabilities, identifying suitable technologies and preparing for export markets through a structured six-month programme.

Because growth beyond borders takes the right capabilities, appropriate technology and partnerships that move businesses forward.

What if your business could answer customers even while you sleep?

That was the focus of MTDC's Knowledge Sharing Session on MTDC SPHERE with SME entrepreneurs at UMEC Office, Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, on 21 October 2026.

Mohd Izwan Yusof from MTDC's Business Advisory Services Department introduced MTDC SPHERE, a digital platform designed to support business growth through AI-powered tools, CRM, lead management and process automation.

Through a live demo and hands-on practice, participants saw how to build and update a business website, respond to customer enquiries with AI Chat and AI Agent, manage leads and automate follow-ups.

The session also welcomed members of the deaf community, with a sign language interpreter present. For these entrepreneurs, AI-powered tools can open new ways to communicate with customers and grow their businesses.

For MTDC, this goes beyond tech adoption. It is about reaching more entrepreneurs, connecting them with the right support and expertise, and helping them grow sustainably.

MTDC and SME Corp. Malaysia met today to explore potential collaboration on joint programmes and investment opportunities to strengthen Malaysia’s technology ecosystem. The meeting brought together Ts. Hj. Mohammad Hazani Hj. Hassan, Group Chief Executive Officer of MTDC, and Encik Rizal bin Dato’ Nainy, Chief Executive Officer of SME Corp. Malaysia, alongside representatives from both organisations.

The discussion centred on opportunities to combine both organisations’ expertise and networks to support the growth of technology-driven Malaysian enterprises. Potential areas of cooperation included programmes to strengthen business capabilities and facilitate investment, with a view to helping more local companies build their competitiveness and pursue opportunities for growth.

At KL20 2026, MTDC joins Malaysia's wider startup community in advancing the country's position as a destination for technology entrepreneurship and investment.

Our work in semiconductor venture building offers a practical example. Through SemiconStart Malaysia, in collaboration with Silicon Catalyst UK, MTDC supports local semiconductor startups as they navigate the path from technology development towards commercialisation.

Semiconductors are a demanding business. Developing the technology is one challenge; building a commercially viable company around it is another. The support available along that journey can make a real difference.

Connecting Global Expertise with Malaysia's Technology Potential

What opportunities could emerge when global technology networks connect with Malaysia's growing technology ecosystem?

MTDC recently engaged with Mr Thomas Chang, Business Director of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan, to explore potential collaboration and investment opportunities. Headquartered in Taiwan, ITRI is an applied technology research organisation with an established presence across the United States, Europe and Asia, alongside international partnerships, including Mexico.

As ITRI explores Malaysia's potential as a technology and industry partner within ASEAN, the discussion provided an opportunity to identify areas for future cooperation and strengthen cross-border industry connections.

The engagement reflects MTDC's continued efforts to expand international networks and connect Malaysian technology companies with opportunities in the global technology ecosystem.
