“Do not sleep on your rights. As consumers, we should never ignore or take our rights for granted because these are our protection against unfair business practices, defective products, and misleading information,” emphasized Ms. Nadzma Saracal, Complaints Handling Officer. She encouraged students to stay informed, ask questions, and think carefully before making purchases to avoid being taken advantage of. She also reminded the youth that being aware of their rights empowers them to make smarter decisions and become more responsible consumers.

‎“That we get the value for money on the consumer products and services we purchase,” shared Atty. Ryan Casabar, Chief Trade-Industry Development Specialist, highlighting the importance of consumer protection in ensuring fair quality and reasonable pricing for every purchase.

‎Ms. Mae Flor Caminade, Senior Trade-Industry Development Specialist and Engr. Kenneth Morata, Trade-Industry Development Specialist, also discussed "Consumer Rights and Responsibilities" and "Fair Trade Laws", stressing that informed consumers play a vital role in promoting ethical business practices and accountability in the marketplace.

‎The session emphasized that consumers have the right to safe and quality products, accurate information, fair pricing, and proper remedies when issues arise. It also reminded everyone to practice responsible decision-making and support honest and ethical businesses.

‎Part of DTI-DCFO’s “Kaalaman para sa Kabataang Konsyumer” advocacy, the program equips youth with practical knowledge on consumer protection, preparing them to be responsible consumers and future business leaders. The session was held at the University of Mindanao – Main Campus last April 28, 2026, with students from Marketing, Economics, Legal Management, and Entrepreneurship actively participating to strengthen awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities.

In line with its consumer protection mandate, the Department of Trade and Industry-Davao City Field Office (DTI-DCFO) continues its price monitoring activities across markets, supermarkets, and retail establishments, including the monitoring of school supplies ahead of the opening of classes.

The activity aims to ensure that basic necessities, prime commodities, and essential school items remain available at fair and reasonable prices, while promoting compliance with Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) and proper price tagging.

DTI Davao City also continues to strengthen coordination efforts through the Davao City Price Monitoring Council (DCPMC) to help maintain price stability and transparency amid prevailing market conditions.

Consumers are encouraged to stay informed, compare prices, and report any price-related concerns to the proper authorities.

DAVAO CITY—The Department of Trade and Industry Davao City Field Office (DTI-DCFO), in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Davao City, conducted an Entrepreneurial Mindsetting and Basic Marketing Seminar for members of the P14 Callawa Farmers Association, Inc.

The activity aimed to strengthen the entrepreneurial mindset of farmer-members and enhance their capacity to market their products more effectively, enabling them to explore sustainable income opportunities beyond traditional farming practices.

Members of the association are registered under the National Comprehensive Farmers Registry System (NCFRS), making them eligible for assistance under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP), subject to DTI guidelines.

The seminar was facilitated by Lorenz Jane E. Imboy, Trade-Industry Development Specialist under CARP, who guided participants through the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, emphasizing the importance of developing the right mindset in starting and managing a business.

Imboy also introduced basic marketing concepts, including identifying target customers, understanding product value, and effectively communicating product strengths. Participants were encouraged to adopt practical strategies in promoting their goods and services within their communities and potential markets.

“Entrepreneurship begins with the right mindset. When you start to see opportunities in what you already have, you begin to unlock the potential of your products and your market,” Imboy emphasized during the session.

The activity provided farmer-beneficiaries with valuable knowledge and skills to improve their livelihood initiatives and maximize opportunities available through government support programs.

DTI, in collaboration with DAR, continues to implement capacity-building initiatives aimed at empowering agrarian reform beneficiaries and strengthening inclusive, community-based enterprise development.

DAVAO CITY — The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) conducted an orientation session for its members on April 15, 2026, featuring a presentation from the Department of Trade and Industry–Davao City Field Office (DTI-DCFO) on livelihood and enterprise support programs for senior entrepreneurs.

The session included discussions on the Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG) Program, a calamity-based assistance initiative that supports affected micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in recovering and restarting their operations.

The discussion was facilitated by Ethel B. Gelbolingo, Trade-Industry Development Analyst, who highlighted available assistance mechanisms through Negosyo Centers, including business advisory services, entrepreneurial training, and market linkage opportunities.

Gelbolingo also introduced One Town, One Product (OTOP) branding support for existing MSMEs, as well as low-interest financing options through the Small Business Corporation (SBCorp), aimed at helping businesses expand and sustain operations.

“While some programs are implemented under specific conditions, DTI continues to ensure that support remains accessible, most especially for our senior citizens who are eager to engage in entrepreneurial activities,” Gelbolingo emphasized during the session.

The orientation underscored the importance of continuous support for senior entrepreneurs, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools and resources to start, grow, and sustain their livelihood initiatives.

DTI reaffirms its commitment to inclusive economic development by providing accessible programs and services that empower all sectors, including senior citizens, in building resilient and sustainable enterprises.
