Today, the CWRU Latine Alumni Association joins our community in observing Cinco de Mayo. While often mistaken for Mexican Independence Day (which is September 16th), today marks a specific and powerful moment in history: the 1862 victory of the Mexican army over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla.

To our alumni, this day represents more than a date on the calendar—it symbolizes resistencia, unity, and the triumph of the underdog. As we celebrate that heritage today, we honor the courage of those who defended their sovereignty.
