The Los Angeles Board of Public Works was formally organized on March 1, 1906, with its foundational work setting the stage for major infrastructure developments, including early planning for the Los Angeles Aqueduct, which gained momentum in late 1906.

The board, a key governing body for city services, was established to oversee critical construction and city improvements.

On July 1, the hourly minimum wage in the City of Los Angeles will increase from $17.87 to $18.42. Under City law, annual increases in the minimum wage are tied to the Consumer Price Index.

Today, the Department of Public Works joins city, state, and federal officials in celebrating Korean American Day. Every year, January 13th marks the anniversary of the first group of Korean immigrants arriving in Hawaii in 1903.

The City of Los Angeles is home to the largest Korean American population in the United States, and we proudly recognize the significant contributions of the Korean American community to the rich and diverse fabric of our city.
