CEC District 2 oversees public elementary/ middle schools in NYC Community School District 2.

Ten CEC members are parents in the district and are elected by families in District 2, two are appointed by the Borough President and one is a selected student. Community Education Councils (CECs), created by the New York State Legislature, are the local bodies responsible for ensuring that public school parents and the public have input in educational decision-making at the community school district level. CEC District 2 covers Manhattan from the Battery to roughly 58th Street on the West Side and to roughly 96th Street on the East Side with the exception of the Lower East Side and part of Chinatown, which are in District 1.
