Melbourne was the last stop of the visit of the high ranking Military Delegation of the Hellenic Defence Forces from Athens led by Air Marshal Konstantinos Bouzos, Chief of Staff of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, to commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the Battle of Crete (1941 - 2026) and honour the brave ANZACs who fought shoulder to shoulder with the brave Cretans in the island of Crete in Greece.

Warmest congratulations to the Battle of Crete and Greece Commemorative Council and its Chair Mrs. Natasha Spanos, the Cretan Brotherhood and its President Mr. Kyriakos Herekakis and the Pancretan Association and its President Mr. John Nikolakakis for their impeccable hospitality and to all those who have contributed to the organization of the visit.

Η Μελβούρνη ήταν ο τελευταίος σταθμός της επίσκεψης υψηλόβαθμης στρατιωτικής αντιπροσωπείας από την Αθήνα υπό τον Αντιπτέραρχο Κωνσταντίνο Μπούζο, Επιτελάρχη του Γενικού Επιτελείου Εθνικής Άμυνας, στο πλαίσιο των επετειακών εδκλώσεων για τη συμπλήρωση 85 ετών από την Μάχη της Κρήτης. Τιμούμε τους γενναίους ANZACs που πολέμησαν στο πλευρό των γενναίων Κρητών στο νησί της Κρήτης.

Θερμά συγχαρητήρια στην Επιτροπή Εορτασμών για την Μάχη της Κρήτης και την Πρόεδρό της κα Νατάσα Σπανού, στη Κρητική Αδελφότητα και τον Πρόεδρό της κ. Κυριάκο Χερεκάκη, στην Παγκρήτια Ένωση και τον Πρόεδρό της κ. Γιάννη Νικολακάκη για την απαράμιλλη φιλοξενία τους και σε όλους όσους συνέβαλαν στη διοργάνωση των εκδηλώσεων.

Ως εκ τούτου, οι ενδιαφερόμενοι θα πρέπει να προβούν στις απαιτούμενες ενέργειες για την έκδοση ελληνικού διαβατηρίου ή την έκδοση νέου τύπου αστυνομικής ταυτότητας.

📍 Υπενθυμίζεται ότι το αίτημα για έκδοση νέου τύπου αστυνομικής ταυτότητας μπορεί να υποβληθεί μόνον στην Ελλάδα (Ελληνική Αστυνομία), μέσω της ψηφιακής πλατφόρμας gov.gr, ενώ το αίτημα για έκδοση ελληνικού διαβατηρίου μπορεί να υποβληθεί στις κατά τόπους Προξενικές Αρχές.

Please be advised that after 03/08/2026, old-type Greek police identity cards will no longer be valid as travel documents. ✈️

Interested persons should proceed with the issuance of a Greek passport or the issuance of the new-type Greek identity card.

📍 Applications for the new-type Greek identity card can only be submitted in Greece through the Hellenic Police via the gov.gr digital platform, while applications for a Greek passport may be submitted through the local Consular Authorities.
