The Philippines presented investment-ready projects in infrastructure, agribusiness, renewable energy, logistics, tourism, manufacturing, and regional development at the 11th Belt and Road Summit, held from 9 to 10 September 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, in coordination with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Hong Kong (PTIC-HK) and the Board of Investments (BOI), supported the participation of a 22-member Philippine delegation composed of representatives from investment promotion agencies, local governments, and partners. The Consulate General secured a dedicated Philippine booth at the Summit, providing the delegation with a common platform to present projects from different parts of the country and connect directly with prospective investors, financiers, and business groups from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and other markets.
Among the opportunities promoted were the C5 MRT Project; Surigao del Sur Coffee Processing and Exchange Hub; Provincial Sports Complex Modernization; Bislig Economic Zone; Talisay-Cebu-Carcar-Moalboal Railway and Freight System, also known as the Baybayin Railway Network; SunAsia Solar and Battery Energy Storage System projects; and palm-oil opportunities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The projects represented a broad range of Philippine development priorities, from urban and provincial transportation to agricultural processing, renewable energy, industrial development, and regional connectivity.
The delegation included representatives of the Bangsamoro Board of Investments (BBOI), Clark Development Corporation (CDC), City Government of Bislig, Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur, and RedRoot Artists and Artisans Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
Consul General Romulo Victor M. Israel, Jr., together with officials of the Philippine Consulate General, visited the Philippine booth and met with members of the delegation. The Consul General conveyed the Consulate General’s support for the participating institutions and received updates on the projects presented, the business-matching engagements conducted, and the initial interest generated during the Summit.
The Philippine participation demonstrated the importance of bringing projects that respond to the country’s infrastructure and development requirements directly before prospective international partners. It also provided participating institutions with an opportunity to assess commercial interest and identify possible areas of cooperation that may contribute to national and regional development priorities.
Held under the theme “Advancing High-Quality Development · Embarking on a New Journey,” the 11th Belt and Road Summit gathered more than 6,200 government and business leaders from over 70 countries and regions. The two-day event showcased more than 300 investment projects, arranged over 800 one-on-one deal-making meetings, and facilitated more than 60 memoranda of understanding.
The Philippine investment-promotion efforts extended to the 5th Hong Kong International Biotechnology Conference and Exhibition (BIOHK2026), held from 9 to 12 September 2026 at the HKCEC. The Philippine Consulate General also secured a Philippine booth at the exhibition, where BOI and CDC presented the country’s investment opportunities to companies, investors, researchers, and institutions engaged in biotechnology, innovation, life sciences, and related industries.
Consul General Israel and Consulate General officials attended the opening ceremony of BIOHK2026 and visited the Philippine booth. The country’s participation in the exhibition complemented its presence at the Belt and Road Summit by broadening the Philippine investment profile to include biotechnology, research, commercialization, and innovation-driven industries.
Ahead of the two events, Consul General Israel received separate courtesy calls from delegations of BBOI and CDC on 8 September 2026. BBOI Chairperson Mohamad Omar Pasigan discussed investment opportunities within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and the institution’s efforts to attract investments aligned with the region’s economic and development priorities.
CDC, meanwhile, presented Clark Freeport as an investment destination and discussed its processes for prospective investors, the experience of existing Hong Kong locators, and opportunities for business expansion. The delegation also showcased Clark-made products, including handcrafted leather goods and furniture and lifestyle products, highlighting the Freeport’s manufacturing and design capabilities.
Consul General Israel and Consulate General officials also attended ASEAN Market Day on 10 September 2026, which provided market information and consultation opportunities for Hong Kong enterprises interested in expanding into Southeast Asia.
Through the coordinated Philippine participation in the Belt and Road Summit and BIOHK2026, project proponents from different parts of the country gained direct access to prospective investors, financial institutions, and business groups. The engagements generated international interest in Philippine opportunities, provided potential avenues for follow-through, and demonstrated how global business platforms may be used to advance projects aligned with the country’s infrastructure and regional development priorities.
