LOOK || The National Meat Inspection Service โ National Capital Region (NMIS-NCR) successfully conducted its 1st Semestral DMIO and LGU MIO Meeting on May 19, 2026, bringing together Deputized Meat Inspection Officers (DMIOs) and Local Government Unit Meat Inspection Officers (LGU MIOs) from across Metro Manila. The meeting served as an important venue for strengthening coordination and reinforcing regulatory compliance within the National Capital Region.
The activity was formally opened by NMIS-NCR Regional Technical Director, Dr. Ronnie Ernst A. Duque, who emphasized the importance of continuous collaboration between NMIS-NCR and Metro Manila local government units. In his message, Dr. Duque highlighted the vital role of meat inspection in safeguarding consumers and ensuring that meat and meat products being distributed in the market are safe, wholesome, and fit for human consumption. He further underscored that strong coordination among regulatory agencies and local government partners remains essential in maintaining effective monitoring, improving enforcement initiatives, and addressing emerging concerns affecting the meat industry, particularly in relation to food safety standards.
Among the key topics discussed during the meeting were the updated guidelines on the reporting and monitoring of African Swine Fever (ASF) positive cases, emphasizing the need for timely reporting, accurate documentation, and immediate coordination among concerned agencies to prevent further spread of the disease. Discussions also focused on the continued importance of proper hygiene and sanitation practices in meat establishments and slaughter facilities to ensure compliance.
In addition, various concerns and operational challenges encountered by different cities and municipalities were likewise discussed, allowing participants to exchange insights, raise recommendations, and identify appropriate measures for improving local meat inspection operations.
