| Costs, market pe*******on, and supply chain issues: organic agriculture has its share of challenges, and the 11th Regional Organic Agriculture Congress (ROAC) brought the players together in one venue to talk about them. Held in Tacloban City on October 6–7, 2026, the congress aimed for clear-cut solutions through sessions and an open forum.

Vincent Jule A. Acayen, an intern under the Youth Internship Program on Organic Agriculture (YIPOA) Batch 4 (2026–2027) from Quinapondan, Eastern Samar, shares his advocacy for accessible, nutritious food and the doors YIPOA has opened for young farmers:

“The more I learned, the more interested I became in Organic Agriculture. I started to think about the kind of food that will be available to our generation in the future. I worry about a time when healthy and nutritious food becomes something only a few people can afford.

I want to help provide safe, affordable, and healthy food—not only for my family, but also for our community. I believe that nutrient-dense food should not be a privilege—it should be accessible to everyone.

Through the Department of Agriculture's National Organic Agriculture Program (NOAP), and with the help of ATI-RTC 8 in implementing the Youth Internship Program on Organic Agriculture (YIPOA), I was given an opportunity that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

YIPOA opened doors for me—not only to learn about sustainable agriculture, but also to discover opportunities in farming and entrepreneurship. As a young person, I see this program as a very meaningful initiative. It does not only teach us how to produce food for our families. It also immerses us in the realities of farming as a business. More importantly, YIPOA became a community where we meet people, who do not only mentor us about farming, but also teach us lessons about life.

Through this journey, I have learned to see farming not only as a science, but also as an art-a place where we can express our creativity, develop innovations, and find solutions to the challenges we face.”

On October 14–15, 2026, the DA-BAFS OAD convened accredited PGS Groups and partner agencies, including DA Regional Field Offices’ Organic Agriculture Program and ATI Regional Training Centers, across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to review DA Department Circular Nos. 02 and 03, Series of 2022.

Through collaborative discussions and plenary validation, participants identified key regulatory concerns and proposed recommendations to improve PGS operations and accreditation requirements.

The insights gathered will help inform the proposed revisions to the PGS regulatory framework and support the continued development of organic agriculture in the Philippines.

We honor the life and legacy of Dr. Norman G. de Jesus, who served as Academe Representative to the National Organic Agriculture Board (NOAB) from 2018 to 2020.

Through his dedication, wisdom, and active involvement in shaping organic agriculture policies, guidelines, and sustainable farming initiatives, he helped advance the cause of organic agriculture in the Philippines. His service reflected a deep commitment to agricultural development and a vision of a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, the seeds of knowledge, service, and inspiration he planted will continue to grow through the lives he touched and the work he helped advance.
