Smarter procurement through AI 💡

Three of our teams recently received Procurement AI Innovation Awards for applying AI to tackle real challenges and deliver impact. These wins reflect what happens when people are equipped and empowered to build with AI.

Through DSTA’s AI Acceleration initiative, including curated AI courses, hands-on workshops and sharing sessions, our people are growing their AI skills and turning ideas into working solutions.

The award-winning teams show what harnessing AI effectively looks like in practice:

▪️ Approval of Purchase (AOP) Generator and Assistant drafts AOP submissions and checks for errors and omissions, reducing manual effort and approval times.

▪️ NegotiateAI analyses supplier deviations and recommends negotiation positions, enabling faster and more consistent negotiations.

▪️Tender Releasing Assistant (TRACE) checks tender submissions against sourcing documents to flag inconsistencies early and reduce errors and rework.

As we continue to build AI capabilities across DSTA, we look forward to seeing more ideas turn into impact! 🚀

From the ground to the air, technology is the force multiplier for the SAF to fight smarter and integrate better.

DSTA engineers, embedded with their SAF counterparts at , are refining next-generation capabilities, from enabling efficient sharing of mission-critical information to operating multiple unmanned systems more intuitively.

Through iterative sprints and trials, our engineers are putting technology to the test, gathering valuable insights to prepare for the next paradigm of warfare.

From extending connectivity in challenging environments to exploring smarter ways to counter drone threats, our engineers are working alongside soldiers and industry partners in the field at Exercise Wallaby 2026 to evaluate innovative solutions.

As the overall systems integrator, DSTA brings together different sensors and effectors into a single, mobile counter-drone system, designed to adapt to different operational needs. The team is also adapting commercial 5G technology for defence use, exploring how aerial communications nodes can bring high-bandwidth connectivity closer to troops.

The close ops-tech collaboration allows us to gain valuable insights to refine and test, taking us further to enable the SAF to detect, track and respond to evolving unmanned threats.

Advancing AI and cloud capabilities for defence 🚀

DSTA is partnering with Red Hat, a global leader in enterprise open-source solutions, through its new AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore.

The collaboration brings together DSTA’s engineering expertise and defence domain knowledge with Red Hat’s open-source capabilities to explore and co-develop solutions in AI, cloud computing, application modernisation and edge computing.

These efforts aim to accelerate the development and deployment of AI solutions at scale as defence requirements evolve in the AI era, while contributing to Singapore’s broader ambitions under the National AI Strategy 2.0.

At the Red Hat Summit on 22 October, Deputy Director (AI Development), Digital Hub, Akash Philip, took part in a panel discussion, sharing DSTA’s perspectives on harnessing AI for defence. He spoke about the opportunities and challenges of AI adoption, including the importance of addressing security considerations from the outset.

Putting our tech skills to work for a good cause 🫶

Through DSTA’s Tech for Good initiative, our engineers extend their expertise beyond defence to support community organisations.

Working with AWWA, the team developed an app to simplify how care staff record dementia-related behavioural incidents and track follow-ups.
