On 09 May 2026, ICA Search and Examination officers and Singapore Police Force K9 unit officers conducted a joint enforcement operation at Woodlands Checkpoint and foiled an attempt to smuggle heat sticks (heat-not-burn to***co products) and a vaporiser into Singapore via a Singapore-registered rental car.

ICA officers directed the vehicle for enhanced checks and uncovered 11,000 heat sticks and a vaporiser concealed beneath the passenger seats and inside the centre console. Prior to the check, the driver had declared only a single packet of ci******es.
Heat sticks, vaporisers, and ni****ne pouches are banned in Singapore. The 37-year-old male Singaporean driver was arrested in connection with the case. The case has been referred to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigation.

Did you know that the way ICA clears vehicles at our land checkpoints has transformed significantly over the decades?

From manual passport stamping to todayโ€™s seamless QR code clearance, every arrival and departure by car, motorcycle or lorry reflects ICAโ€™s continued efforts to make border clearance more secure, efficient and convenient.

Today, travellers arriving in and departing from Singapore via various modes of transport can use QR codes generated on the MyICA mobile app instead of presenting their passports.

What once relied on stamps and manual checks has evolved into a smarter and more seamless clearance experience for all.

From stamp to scan โ€“ and the journey continues.
