On 7 October 2026, ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint foiled an attempt to smuggle duty-unpaid ci******es into Singapore via a Malaysia-registered car.

ICA Search and Examination officers directed the vehicle for enhanced checks and uncovered more than 400 cartons and 30 packets of duty-unpaid ci******es concealed within various modified compartments of the vehicle.

The 37-year-old male Malaysian driver was arrested in connection with the case. The exhibits and suspect were referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.

Whether travelling by car or motorcycle, taking the bus, or transporting goods, different journeys through Old Woodlands Checkpoint followed different routes for clearance.

From the passenger halls to the immigration car booths and cargo clearance areas, these scenes offer a glimpse into what crossing the land border was like in years past.

On 27 October 2026, ICA participated in the RTS Link Malaysia-Singapore Cross-Border Joint Exercise: Field Training Exercise (FTX) to test the operational readiness and coordination of agencies from both countries in managing an emergency scenario at the RTS Link. This included coordinated cross-border emergency responses such as joint firefighting operations, medical triage and facilitated casualty evacuation.

The exercise involved agencies from both countries such as, the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) and Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF); and Singapore’s ICA, Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force.

It concluded with a Joint Closing Ceremony held on 28 October at the RTS Wadi Hana Depot, Johor Bahru, co-officiated by The Honourable Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia, and Ms. Sim Ann 沈颖, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister of Home Affairs of Singapore.

The exercise underscores the strong ties and close cooperation between both countries in ensuring safe, secure and reliable cross-border travel when the RTS Link service commences.

ICA will continue to work closely with our counterparts and stakeholders to strengthen preparedness and resilience in safeguarding our borders.

On 8 October 2026, ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint foiled an attempt to smuggle duty-unpaid ci******es into Singapore via a Malaysia-registered lorry.

ICA Image Analyst noticed anomalies in the scanned images of the vehicle and directed it for enhanced checks. During the checks, more than 800 cartons of duty-unpaid ci******es were uncovered hidden beneath baskets of vegetables in white trash bags. The consignment was declared as assorted vegetables.

The 33-year-old male Malaysian driver was arrested in connection with the case. The exhibits and suspect were referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.

𝗗𝗿𝘂𝗴𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 ‘𝗜𝗰𝗲’ 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝘂𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁

A 24-year-old Malaysian man has been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs, including about 1,924g of he**in and 164g of ‘Ice’, into Singapore on a Malaysia-registered motorcycle at Tuas Checkpoint on 21 October 2026.

ICA officers referred the motorcycle for enhanced checks and uncovered five bundles suspected to contain controlled drugs in a tote bag hidden beneath a raincoat in the motorcycle's top box. Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) CNB Drug Free SG officers were immediately alerted to the detection and conducted further checks on the man and the motorcycle. A total of about 1,924g of he**in and 164g of ‘Ice’ were seized.

The drugs seized have an estimated worth of more than $222,000 and could potentially feed the addiction of about 1,010 abusers for a week.

Investigations are ongoing. Under Section 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, those who import into or export from Singapore more than 15g of diamorphine or “pure he**in” may face the death penalty.

ICA will continue to work closely with CNB to prevent attempts to smuggle drugs across Singapore’s borders. ICA also remains vigilant in conducting security checks at our checkpoints to deter and detect the smuggling of undesirable persons, weapons, explosives and other contraband across our borders.

On 11 October 2026, ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint foiled an attempt to smuggle duty-unpaid ci******es into Singapore via a Malaysia-registered pickup truck.

ICA Search & Examination officers directed the truck for enhanced checks and discovered more than 1380 packets of duty-unpaid ci******es concealed within tyre rims.

The 23-year-old male Malaysian driver was arrested in connection with the case. The exhibits and suspect were referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.

On 1 October 2026, ICA officers at Pasir Panjang Scanning Station foiled an attempt to smuggle an assortment of controlled weapons and am******on into Singapore via an inbound cargo container.

Based on information received from ICA’s Integrated Targeting Centre (ITC), the container was referred for further checks. An ICA Image Analyst noticed anomalies in the scanned image and directed the container for enhanced checks, which uncovered a total of 6 packets and a bottle of BB pellets, 40 packets of 72 caps and 5 units of replica guns.

The case was referred to the Singapore Police Force for further investigation. A 19-year-old male teenager is assisting with investigation for an offence under the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021.

The Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021 came into force on 1 July 2025, replacing the Arms and Explosives Act 1913, Dangerous Fireworks Act 1972 and Explosive Substances Act 1924.
