PSS and AVS launch two new parrot care resources at Friends of Parrots Day! 🦜

Today, parrot owners and bird lovers came together at Singapore’s inaugural Friends of Parrots Day, jointly organised by the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, and Parrot Society Singapore (PSS), to mark World Parrot Day and promote responsible parrot care.

At the event, PSS and AVS also launched two new resources to support parrot owners and the wider community in making more informed decisions about parrot care.

📖 Developed by PSS and supported by AVS, the Parrot Care Handbook (Revised Edition) is Singapore’s first comprehensive parrot care handbook. The 180-page e-book offers science-based guidance on parrot care, behaviour, nutrition, enrichment, and welfare. Download it here for free: https://parrotsocietysg.org/handbook/

💡 AVS also worked closely with PSS to develop a new Advisory on Parrot Free-flying. Free-flying is an advanced practice and poses real risks to pet parrots in Singapore's urban environment.

Together, let's build a more informed community and responsible parrot-keeping community, and ensure our feathered friends receive the care they need to thrive.

The distinctive Fruit Salad Plant (Monstera deliciosa) is featured on the second series of Singapore’s 5-cent coin, celebrating one of the most iconic foliage plants found in tropical landscapes. 🍃

Recognisable by its large, glossy leaves with natural splits and holes, this striking plant adds a bold, jungle-like charm to gardens and indoor spaces alike.

Its unique leaf “fenestrations” (natural holes) help it withstand heavy rain and wind in its native rainforest habitat.
