The Embassy of the Philippines in Ankara proudly joins Filipinos around the world in observing National Flag Days, commemorated annually from 28 May to 12 June in honor of the Philippine flag and the enduring spirit of the Filipino people.
This observance traces its origins to the historic Battle of Alapan on 28 May 1898, celebrated as the first decisive victory of Filipino revolutionary forces over Spanish troops following the return of General Emilio Aguinaldo from exile. In the aftermath of this triumph in Cavite, the Philippine flag was first unfurled, an iconic moment that paved the way for the proclamation of Philippine independence on 12 June 1898.
More than a national emblem, the Philippine flag is a powerful symbol of freedom, sovereignty, unity, and shared identity. Its display honors the courage and sacrifices of those who fought for independence and reminds us of our ongoing responsibility to uphold the values and aspirations of the Filipino nation.
As we observe National Flag Days, let us proudly raise the Philippine flag and reaffirm our commitment to patriotism, unity, and national pride.

This May, the Philippine Embassy in Ankara joins the nation in celebrating National Heritage Month (NHM) — a time to honor the stories, traditions, and places that shape who we are as a people.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 439, s. 2003, this year’s theme, “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future,” invites us to reflect on our rich cultural foundations while embracing the future we are building together.
As we look back with pride, we are reminded that our heritage is a living legacy, guiding our values, strengthening our identity, and inspiring unity across generations and communities.
Let us continue to celebrate, preserve, and share the heritage that connects us all.
