Join Canyon Crew at Discovery Canyon Campus High School!
Canyon Crew is a great leadership opportunity for students (rising Juniors or rising Seniors) who want to make a positive impact at DCCHS. As a Canyon Crew Leader, you will help incoming freshmen feel welcomed, supported, and successful during their transition into high school.
Canyon Crew Leaders are specially trained to work with freshmen and play an important role on Freshman Orientation Day (O‑Day). On this day, leaders guide small groups of 10–12 freshmen through fun activities, team-building challenges, and important information about the school. Beyond orientation, Crew Leaders stay connected with their group throughout the year by checking in, offering support, and helping plan social events.
Participation requires commitment. Leaders must attend summer training sessions and Freshman Orientation Day, as well as monthly morning meetings during the school year to plan events and stay organized.
Benefits of Joining Canyon Crew
Joining Canyon Crew comes with many rewards, including:
Leadership experience – Grow your confidence and develop skills in communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Positive impact – Make a real difference by helping freshmen feel connected and successful at DCCHS.
Stronger relationships – Build friendships with other leaders and form meaningful connections with your Crew.
School involvement – Be an active part of planning events like social activities, check-ins, and support sessions for students.
Personal growth – Gain responsibility, empathy, and organizational skills that will benefit you in school and beyond.
Resume and college applications – Demonstrate leadership, service, and commitment to your community.
Joining Canyon Crew is a chance to build leadership skills, meet new people, and make a meaningful difference in your school community. If you’re a rising Junior or rising Senior, responsible, positive, and excited to help others, Canyon Crew could be a great fit for you.
Applications are open now and must be completed by Sunday, June 21,2026, at 11:59 p.m. Selected students will be notified by email.
Questions? Email Mr. Mitchell at [email protected].

Thunder & Lightning Award
The LAST week of the 25-26 school year!
Student chosen: Sydney Richardson - Sophomore
Sydney Richardson is a rising junior who exemplifies excellence both inside and outside the classroom. She is a high-achieving student whose kindness, compassion, and empathy positively impact those around her. Sydney is a responsible and supportive member of our school community and contributes her talents through Band as a percussionist and through the National Art Honor Society. She has especially enjoyed her Mandarin studies and embraces opportunities to learn and grow. We are excited to see the leadership and accomplishments she will bring to DCC over the next two years.
Teacher/Staff chosen: Mr. Jay McGuffin - Instrumental Music Teacher
Sydney selected Mr. McGuffin because:
I like how easygoing he is, and I think that he is awesome."
Over the past two years, Mr. McGuffin has made a tremendous impact on DCC through his leadership of our Band and Orchestra programs. His passion for music, positive energy, and dedication to students are evident in every rehearsal and performance. Whether working with Jazz Band before school, leading outstanding concerts, or bringing excitement and school spirit through Pep Band performances, Mr. McGuffin creates opportunities for students to shine. His enthusiasm is contagious, and his efforts have helped make DCC an even stronger and more vibrant community.
Thank you to all the staff of DCCHS for making a difference in the lives of our students each and every day. Go Thunder! 💜⚡

Thunder & Lightning Award
Week 2
Student chosen: Anthony Thadepalli - Junior
Anthony is a rising senior who brings a positive attitude and welcoming smile to campus each day. As the fourth member of his family to attend DCC, he has proudly continued a strong family tradition. Anthony has been a dedicated student who enjoys challenging himself in his classes, spending time in the weight room, and being part of the vibrant DCC community. One of his favorite traditions is Thor Wars, which reflects the sense of connection and school spirit that he values so much. We are excited to see all that Anthony accomplishes during his senior year.
Teacher/Staff chosen: Ms. Teresa Edwards - Science Teacher
Anthony selected Ms. Edwards because:
"She came into our class in January and brought great energy. She makes her lessons engaging and fun and always brings in opportunities for labs in physics."
Ms. Edwards has been an outstanding addition to DCC this semester. Through her enthusiasm, engaging instruction, and genuine care for students, she quickly built strong relationships in both her Physics and Biology classes. While transitions can often create uncertainty, Ms. Edwards immediately put students at ease with her positive presence and commitment to their success. Her ability to connect with students and create meaningful learning experiences has made a lasting impact on our campus.
