Our Students spent the day exploring Cusco- markets, cathedrals and enjoying local parades and celebrations- we will have one more morning to explore before flying to Lima to meet their host families! 🇵🇪

Though our traditions may be different, both days bring people together to reflect on history, faith, community, and the values that connect us across cultures.

Wow, what are the odds! Today is a holiday both in the US 🇺🇸 and in Germany 🇩🇪!

In Germany, the holiday is Pfingstmontag (Pentecost Monday), while in the US, it’s Memorial Day!

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the US honoring those who died while serving in the US military. 🇺🇸 Military families and friends often visit cemeteries to pay their respects and decorate gravesites with flags and flowers. The tradition started in 1868, three years after the end of the Civil War, and it became an official holiday in 1971.

The holiday is also considered the unofficial start of summer 🌞 It takes place on the last Monday of May, and lots of people use the three-day weekend to travel or spend time outside with family. It's a weekend of grilling, park hangouts, and local parades. 🌭🍔

Ruh-roh! The rain is forecast for Saturday and will wash away all of our Friday fun! We are planning to meet instead on Sunday and share in the festivities at Cinco de Mayo! Come enjoy the party 12-6 and chalk with us 12-3.

Join us SUNDAY 12-3 pm to chalk messages of peace during the Cinco de Mayo celebration near the Rotary Pavilion! We didn't want our messages to wash away - so come see us Sunday!!
