Congratulations to Elizabeth Martin, the newest recipient of the Department of Labor Excellence Award.
“I feel honored. I really like what I do and mentoring other people. I am really enjoying this role, so it’s nice to know I’m appreciated.”
Elizabeth is a Supervisor for our Employee Relations Unit, which investigates complaints of harassment and unfair workplace practices for City of Philadelphia Government employees. She oversees each complaint from start to finish. Since becoming a supervisor in 2025, she has focused on improving communication with the people who file complaints.
“When people reach out with a complaint, they want to be heard and they want a response. When they have difficult things they are dealing with, it can help to know we’re there for them.”
Before joining the Department of Labor, Liz worked as an HR manager at the District Attorney’s Office and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Her advice to early-career professionals: “Relationships with people are your currency. That’s how you’re going to get things done. Maintaining those relationships is so important.”

Outside of work, Liz is a proud mother of a 10-year-old son, likes to get outside and exercise, and is involved in her church community.
