The California Democratic Party AAPI Caucus is devastated by the horrific act of violence that occurred on May 18 at the Islamic Center of San Diego during the holy period of Dhu’l-Hijjah. The loss of life, including that of a brave security guard, is heartbreaking and, tragically, far too common. Our Caucus extends our love, support, and solidarity to the Islamic Center of San Diego, the Muslim community, and all those impacted by this tragedy.
Violence at a house of worship tears at the fabric that binds our communities together and undermines our shared sense of safety, belonging, and peace. We call upon our AAPI communities and the broader Democratic family to stand alongside those affected as they begin the healing process. We also offer any resources and support we can provide to assist the community during this difficult time.
We also thank the San Diego Police Department for its rapid response and continued support, as well as our local leaders and partner organizations for standing with the community in this moment.

The California Democratic Party Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus stands in solidarity with the survivors who have come forward in recent days regarding allegations of sexual harassment, coercion, and violence involving gubernatorial candidate Congressman Eric Swalwell. We recognize the immense courage it takes to speak out, and we are committed to centering their voices, experiences, and healing.
We find the allegations that have emerged to be deeply troubling. As Democrats, we believe in accountability, integrity, and the responsibility of leadership to uphold the highest ethical standards. These values must guide us, especially in moments like this.
In light of these concerns, we call on Congressman Swalwell to suspend his Gubernatorial campaign and resign from Congress. This step is necessary to ensure that survivors are respected and that the focus remains on fostering a political culture rooted in trust, safety, and accountability.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting survivors and advancing a Democratic Party that reflects our shared values.
