The National Coalition for the Homeless has been working for 30 years to organize a grassroots movement that understands the root causes of homelessness and works towards equal access to housing and health care, economic stability, and the preservation of civil and voting rights of those experiencing poverty and homelessness. NCH provides leadership for national policy discussions from the ranks of those who have been homeless. NCH is committed to engaging in creative ways of enabling the government, private organizations, housed and un-housed individuals to work effectively together towards preventing and ending homelessness. This is intended to be a space for supporters of NCH to discuss current issues and share information about ending homelessness. We encourage open discussion and invite you to share your opinion on our issues. All statements expressed by others on the wall do not necessarily reflect the organization’s views. However, we reserve the right to delete posts containing any of the following elements:

As the cold weather approaches, Maine faces an urgent humanitarian crisis. We invite all community members, organizations, and civic leaders to join a nonpartisan "Housing Now" rally on October 21, 2026, at 4:00 PM in Portland’s Monument Square.
Co-hosted by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the Bring America Home Now campaign, this peaceful gathering transcends party lines. Safe, stable shelter is not a partisan issue—it is a fundamental human right.
Maine desperately needs expanded housing options to combat the root causes of homelessness. Locally, the immediate crisis demands the establishment of a dedicated, reliable warming shelter for Cumberland County to ensure our most vulnerable neighbors survive the winter months.
We urge individuals from all sides of the political aisle, local service agencies, and concerned citizens to stand together. Let us send a clear, unified message to our elected leaders that immediate action, funding, and compassion are required to build more housing and protect lives across our state.
Sincerely,
Zachary Moore
Co-captain for Maine, Bring America Home Now campaign
Person with lived experience and in long-term recovery

Now it’s your chance to add one to your collection and support these artists directly. 💜

This work comes from Answering the Call: Bridging Communities, Systems, and Policy, an annual conference held with the National Coalition for the Homeless (National Coalition For the Homeless) and Destination: Home (Destination: Home). The conference brings together people with lived experience, activists, and leaders from across the country for three days of connection, learning, and leadership development. It’s led by the people most impacted, from the logistics to the session themes.

These are leaders who are often unseen. Now they’re impossible to ignore.

Local Color is proud to host this benefit sale and bring these artists’ work to a wider audience. Every purchase supports the artists directly AND the larger movement they’re part of.
