Congratulations to Dr Chaloka Beyani on His National Honour!
The United Nations in Zambia congratulates Dr Chaloka Beyani, United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, on being conferred the Order of Distinguished Service, First Division, by the President of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, during the Independence Day Investiture Ceremony held on 24 October 2026.
This prestigious national honor recognizes Dr Beyani’s distinguished service and contributions to the promotion and protection of human rights, peace and human dignity.
We celebrate this well-deserved recognition of a distinguished Zambian serving at the highest levels of the United Nations and contributing to global efforts to prevent genocide and protect populations from atrocity crimes.

This week Resident Coordinator a.i Dr James Wakiaga joined UN Volunteers serving across Zambia participating in the Capacity Development and Learning Facility (CDLF) Workshop, a platform designed to strengthen professional skills, leadership capacity, and career readiness.

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting the work of the United Nations and advancing sustainable development. By investing in their growth, we are building a stronger, more resilient network of development practitioners equipped to contribute to Zambia's development priorities.
