The House of Representatives, on Wednesday (June 10), approved the Pensions (Superannuation Funds and Retirement Schemes) (Registration, Licensing and Reporting) (Amendment) Regulations, 2026, aimed at modernising the regulatory fee framework and strengthening oversight of the private pensions sector.

The Regulations, which were tabled in the House on March 24, will address structural mismatches between the Financial Services Commission (FSC) regulatory expenses and its fee collection.

Residents and stakeholders in Spanish Town are being encouraged to participate in a town hall meeting later this month, aimed at strengthening engagement on healthcare issues and ongoing improvements to key medical facilities in the parish.

Speaking at the Monthly Meeting of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation on June 11, in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Parish Manager for the Social Development Commission (SDC), Shana-Lee Archibald, said the forum forms part of the Health System Strengthening Programme being implemented under the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, says that ensuring the mental health and well-being of health workers is a major priority in improving healthcare delivery.

He said that motivated and supported staff are better equipped to provide compassionate care and ensure patient satisfaction.

“It can’t be that the staff are unhappy and the clients are dissatisfied. One feeds into the next, because motivation is derived from providing the environment to motivate,” Dr. Tufton said.

An additional $66 million has been allocated in the 2026/27 Budget to procure 20 more boats and engines under the Fisheries Incentive Programme.

Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining Minister, Hon. Floyd Green, in making the disclosure said that the five-year programme, which targets young fishers, is aimed at modernising Jamaica’s fisheries sector.

Jamaica can expect windy conditions and isolated showers over the next several days due to a Tropical Wave, a Low-Level Jet Stream and an approaching trough.

The Meteorological Service says southern parishes are likely to experience the strongest winds, particularly during the afternoons through mid-week.

Meanwhile, isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are forecast mainly for western parishes and hilly areas through Tuesday.

Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Matthew Samuda, on Thursday (June 11), officially broke ground for the $147.8-million Santa Cruz Bypass Main Replacement Project in St. Elizabeth.

The initiative, being carried out by the National Water Commission (NWC), will replace a deteriorating three-inch cast-iron pipeline that has served the community for more than 50 years.

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is procuring quality-of-service monitoring equipment to independently verify data provided by telecommunications operators.

The Government has acquired additional container houses to accommodate families affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Four new courthouses will be constructed in the parishes of St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, St. Ann and Trelawny under the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NaRAA).

And the House of Representatives has approved the Shipping (Prevention of Garbage Pollution) Regulations, 2026.

The Government is moving ahead with plans to facilitate the construction of nearly 5,000 housing solutions in the Greater Innswood area.

Prime Minister Dr. the Most Andrew Holness says the NHT has been tasked with developing a comprehensive master plan to address key infrastructure challenges, including the widening of St. John's Road and Green Acres Road, as well as major drainage improvements to reduce flooding.

The upgrades are expected to pave the way for expanded housing development and improved access for residents.
