Agri-News Monday: Amity Hall/Bridge Pen Agro Park Officially Launched

Last Thursday, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining commissioned the Amity Hall/Bridge Pen Irrigation System and launched the Amity Hall/Bridge Pen Agro Park in St. Catherine.

Agro-Invest has been part of this project from the very beginning. CEO Mr. Vivion Scully says the Corporation was involved from the early concept, working for more than three years alongside the project team, the Caribbean Development Bank and the UK Caribbean Infrastructure Fund to bring the park to reality.

The project, backed by over J$3 billion from the British Government, brings irrigation water from the Rio Cobre to farm lots across the park, giving farmers reliable water in good times and challenging weather alike.

With the park now open, lessees will benefit from:

✅ A dedicated Park Manager and technology transfer team

✅ Matching Grant support of up to $1.2 million in inputs for each lessee farming below 20 acres

✅ Help with land preparation and irrigation to get started on the right foot

💧 Water Is the Foundation
At yesterday's commissioning of the Amity Hall/Bridge Pen Irrigation System and launch of the Agro Park, the Hon. Floyd Green, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, highlighted a simple truth: reliable water is the key to productive, profitable farming.

The new irrigation system brings water from the Rio Cobre to a 500-million-gallon reservoir, then pumps it to irrigate farm lots across the park.

That means farmers can plan, plant and produce year-round with greater confidence, even in the dry season.

With water secured, Amity Hall/Bridge Pen is ready to grow more food for Jamaica.
