State Senator representing Michigan's 2nd District- Detroit, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, & Allen Park. Official Account. Website: https://senatedems.com/santana/

I am a dedicated wife, mother and public servant who has successfully helped reform the state’s justice system for adults and juveniles alike. I have also championed improvements to local government funding and increased funding to Michigan’s public schools so students are well-prepared for their future and continue to work on policies that reduce racial disparities in health outcomes. I am serving my second term in the Michigan Senate, representing the people of Michigan’s 2nd Senate District, which includes Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, and parts of Allen Park and Detroit. You can find a map of the district and look up your location at senatedems.com/santana/district. I am very involved in my community, where I support uplifting local organizations and individuals who work hard to make our area the best place to live, work, and play. I am proud of the many cultures across the district and am deeply invested in efforts toward equity for women of color as it relates to businesses, health care, and more. I graduated with a master's in Business Administration and Management from MSU's Eli Broad College of Business and a bachelor’s degree in business from Eastern Michigan University. I reside in Warrendale with my husband, Harvey, and our three children.

Last Monday, I had the privilege of hosting my final Coffee Hour as your State Senator. As I reflect on these gatherings over the years, I am filled with gratitude for every conversation, question, concern, and shared vision for our community.

Thank you to Senator Cavanagh and Abbas Alaweigh for joining us, to our presenters from the Michigan Department of Treasury, MDHHS, the Detroit Area Agency on Aging, and others. To the councilmembers, past and present, who took the time to be there, I am grateful.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came out and made these Coffee Hours such a meaningful part of my service. It has been an honor to listen, learn, and work alongside you. While this may have been my final Coffee Hour as your senator, my appreciation for this community will last a lifetime.

Education is still the doorway to opportunities and our children deserve the best! I’m proud to know that we have people who want to serve on our local boards , at the state level, and at our universities. Thank you to Dr. Rema Vassar for continuing to prioritize student engagement and leadership with Sankofa program.
