I had such a blast as a Trunk Host at The Village Lansing’s Trunk or Treat 2026! Such a solid event for kids and families every year, and great partners that support it. Another one in the books! 🎃👻🔮

So many great neighbors out tonight in some pretty fabulous costumes. Even Ken stopped by my Barbie Dream Car. 🚗 💖 Everyone have a safe and Happy Halloween!

Congratulations to the Boys & Girls Club of Lansing and the Lansing Housing Commission on their Westside Extension location!

It is inspiring and rewarding to see great partnerships converge to meet our kids and neighbors where they’re at, and create opportunities for community in safe and nurturing environments.

Thank you to Mayor Andy Schor and City Council Vice President Trini Lopez Pehlivanoglu, Lansing City Council for joining in the celebrations.

Most of all, I loved seeing the classroom of one of my former lovely students, Miss Jada. So proud! ❤️

I’m excited to be a Trunk Host at this year’s The Village Lansing 8th annual Trunk or Treat! 🎃👻

Want to volunteer, be a trunk host, or donate? Check out their caption below:

“Are you signed up to partner with us for The Village Lansing’s 8th Annual Trunk or Treat? It’s not too late to join! 🎃✨

Join us this Saturday for a night of Halloween fun with The Village Lansing! We are still seeking Trunk Hosts to set up and pass out candy during the event.

Each year, this tradition is made possible by the dozens of community members, neighbors, local businesses, and organizations that fill our parking lot to create an engaging, safe Halloween experience for hundreds of Lansing families.

🍬 Need extra candy? The Village provides backfill candy support to our Trunk Hosts throughout the evening to ensure the candy flows all night long!

Tonight, current and former members of the Lansing City Council gathered on the tenth floor of David C. Hollister City Hall to connect, reminisce, and look to the future.

As folks perused the Council offices and Tony Benavides City Council Chambers, stories and memories were shared, colleagues and friends reunited, and we all basked in a moment of reflection and pause; honoring the past, standing firmly in the present, and gazing towards the future with curiosity, hope, and wondering.

While we all have served the City of Lansing at different points in times, with some crossing paths here and there, we all share the same gratitude for the opportunity to lead, a call to serve, and unwavering love for our city and the people of Lansing.

As we conclude our final meetings in the current City Hall over the next month, I echo the sentiments shared by President Peter Spadafore in his remarks this evening:

In 1959, our city celebrated our centennial, launched city business in a newly minted city hall, and began a new era with a new city charter. In 2026, we find ourselves on similar footing, and looking forward to where we can take our city next and make living, working, and playing in Lansing better for everyone. Here’s to anew.

Stopped by the Fenner Nature Center Apple Butter Festival and it did not disappoint. From live music, to artisanal treats, Apple butter churning, and sawing wood, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The festival continues today 11am-5pm and it is free- with a suggested donation of $5 to the center. Shoutout to my colleagues Councilwomen Trini Lopez Pehlivanoglu, Lansing City Council and Tamera Carter for churning Apple butter together as star stirrers. Real teamwork! 🍎🪵🍂🍁

From setup to teardown, the All of the Above Hip Hop Academy Sneaker Gala is one of the most joyful events each year! Whether it’s your first AOTA event or you’re a longtime crew member, you feel like family.

One of my favorite parts was working the check-in table with my new friend Hanna, and being able to greet every single guest, and invite them in to be part of the magic. Another favorite moment was the beautiful tribute my sweet friend Joseph Mole shared on behalf of Matinga Ragatz, a revolutionary educator, artist, and comrade in this work. Rest in Power, friend.

By the end of the night, folks had stars in their eyes. We were all moved to stand up for our kids, our community, and the culture of hip hop. I’m proud to be a sponsor and contribute in small ways to ensure AOTA’s love and brilliance shine for everyone.

Congratulations to all the incredible performers and awardees! Thank you to the Lansing Shuffle for hosting all the fun. Cannot WAIT for next year! ✨

Spent the evening with this year’s cohort of the City of Lansing, Michigan - Government Citizens Academy and it was a blast!

From sharing dinner in city hall lobby, to exploring the role that city council plays and answering questions, it is always a joy talking to residents, listening to ideas and challenges, and coming up with solutions together. I especially loved to see neighbors and friends.

Thank you to this year’s cohort participants and the Department of Neighborhoods and Citizen Engagement.

Our At Large Constituent Contact Meeting with a Youth Focus was a great success! So many fruitful questions, conversations, and possibilities to discover. As a teacher at Everett, this is a topic near and dear to my heart, and I’m grateful to hold the space for it with my At Large Council Colleagues Trini Lopez Pehlivanoglu, Lansing City Council Jeremy Garza, Lansing City Council and Council Member Tamera Carter.

Thank you to all neighbors and partners who came out this morning! A special thank you to our guest speakers who shared their knowledge and perspectives with us:

Jessica Benavides, Superintendent of Lansing School District
With Members of the Junior Board
Brad Funkhouser, CEO of CATA - Capital Area Transportation Authority
Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope
And Thank you Mayor Andy Schor for stopping by.

Thank you to UA Local 333 for hosting us!

Congratulations to Resolution Services Center of Central Michigan for a welcoming, accessible, and generous celebration tonight. It was remarkable to learn about and explore what conflict resolution means, how it can exist in our daily lives, and meet the folks who are leading its charge throughout our region. Thank you for serving Lansing!

It’s a vulnerable and humbling experience to face conflict head on, and much of the time, we have no choice but to face it. A beautiful reminder from the Executive Director tonight- conflict resolution is turning a period into a comma, and helping someone believe in the possibility of a different outcome. Gratitude is breathing positivity into the present reality.

Thank you to Urban Beat for the beautiful space, and to my colleague President Peter Spadafore for jovially hosting the room for the night.
